getting a new bird

I'm happy to say with your help and some research I've decided to get a cockatiel. I'm soo excited. I should have him around wednesday. My cage comes tomorrow and I need time to disenfect it then I can pick him up! I really want a male, at what age can you tell? Any advise for a new owner would be appreciated. I do have a parakeet I got on feb 1 which I love, but wanted something more sociable.

Get your teil from a decent breeder and not a pet store. They should be able to tell you which is a male save for some of the mutations until they are older. Please keep your new bird in a seperate room for at least a month To prevent one or the other from sharing anything they could be carrying. It takes awhile for diseses to expose themselvesand they are usually brought out by bringing them home so just to be safe we all usually Quarentine new birds at first. Also some mutations are sex linked so the breeder will know males from females. If you buy from a pet store...good luck. You will get a better price from a breeder also.
