Lynda,
Words don't make the reality and pain go away, but I do send words of comfort to you. May the lesson remain even as the pain heals. Your care is obvious in your posts. I don't think there's one of us here who hasn't done something without even thinking. I remember once standing in my open doorway with my little lovebird on my shoulder -- WITH UNCLIPPED WINGS!!! I just wasn't thinking. By the grace of God he didn't fly away, but you can bet I'm very careful about those things now. (((Hugs)))

I am sorry Lynda, it brought tears to my eyes. I lost a cockatiel once, I was always on the kids back, don't leave the doors open, the birds can fly out. Guess what? I left the door open while bringing the shopping inside. I forgot to check the cage was locked before I brought the shopping in and my "b fa" (b for bird) flew to me with happiness when he saw me, but he continued to go out the door with me in hot pursuit, but we never got him back. My only consolation is maybe someone found him and gave him a good home - I hope anyway. Accidents happen even to the best of us.

We have a large fish vase for a betta... or to say betta and a peace lily... which btw the lily is dieing slowly.... but that means that the top of the vase is covered.... Cats keep on trying to get into it or take the marbles ontop out to play with on the ground. My worry is that the fish will die of starvation or something like that as it's not my pet and I DO NOT wish to take care of the entire pets in the house as only 8 of them are truely mine, and the other 4 are not....
Lynda, I'm sorry to hear of your poor baby as well. It's been hard to read these replies! I do hope you feel better as it really doesn't sound as if it were you fault intentionally.

Thanks again everyone. I read the replies and you all are wonderful.
My husband won't let me get rid of the tank. We have a twenty gallon tank with two goldfish who are both five years old and won at a county fair. Very spoiled fish. We came to a compromise though that the tank was moved into the master bath and far from where any escapee can fall into it again. To even look at that tank makes my stomach roll. I hate the thing now. Lynda |

I'm so sorry Lynda. Such a heart rending thing to happen, but it was just a terrible accident.
Have you seen the screens they make to fit over aquariums for reptiles? You could put one of those under the hood with a little square cut out for feeding, maybe that would give you piece of mind. Hugs to you....
