I am so sorry! I imagine what you must be feeling!
Thank you for sharing it with us and help us be more attentive too.
Don't feel so bad. We all know that it was an accident.
My hearth goes to you.

Thank you for being strong and brave and sharing with us. I know it will make me a more diligent caretaker for my bird.

You have my thoughts with you. Please try not to be too hard on yourself.

Lynda - I am so sorry to hear - - may your little gal rest in peace.

I lost a cat this past summer to something very stupid that I did, that we all did in my house (she was taken by a coyote on the very same night that 3 people had the thought that she should be brought in for the night). I will never live down that pain, but I have learned from it; that's all any of us can hope for.

Remember your bird for the glorious creature she was, and consider your lesson learned. Do not dwell on that which cannot be taken back. Such accidents happen, and they hurt for years, but I'm sure your little bird had a wonderful life and we have all learned from your post.

BTW - I think the screen with a small hole cut for feeding is an EXCELLENT idea and may help your peace of mind.
