hanging gyms for non flighted birds

I am thinking of making an atom ball for my tiel but I am concerned about hanging it from the ceiling because Oscar's wings are clipped back quite far and he might fall. The breeder I got him from botched the clipping and when I took him to petsmart, the bird lady, (who is great with the birds, the only one I trust) had to clip him back quite far to even it up. I have to keep him clipped because the outside door is right in our living room, I hate that. Now Oscar cant really glide to the floor. He does't fall straight down, but pretty close to it. Would it be dangerous for oscar to play on a hanging gym. I planned on connecting a ladder to the gym so he can get up to it. I am worried about him falling. he is still pretty clumsy lol. Could I rig it up with a tray underneath. ideas are appreciated.

I was thinking about this problem myself. I have lovebirds, they have been clipped, and can't fly too much. I was going to put my sphere on a heavy perch down low (outside of the cage, of course) near the door so they can "walk" over and check it out. Once they have found it and tried it, then I will let them play with it and maybe move it a little further away. You can add all kind of toys and chewys to keep them occupied. Once they have tried it, then you can put perches on the outside so they can get to it. I won't "hang" mine because I don't want them to fall that far down. Until your bird is comfortable, I would keep it low.

Don't risk a broken keel bone, or broken legs- Maybe hang it from the ceiling using a rope so that it's close to the ground AND your birdy can climb it and get exercise! I have this problem too as my lory's breeder clipped her too short and I have to watch her on her play branch incase she falls off because can't glide properly either!

i too would hang it very low to make sure he doesn't fall very far until his wings grow back and you can clip him properly.... also, add some pillows and soft materials underneath (i did that when i had pita who had a terrible clip at that time)
