Worried Sick

Yesterday I took Sunny to the vet because he was not looking good. It started the day before and was not looking any better yesterday. He was sitting really low slouching on his perch, was breathing hard and fast, and his tail was bobbing. The vet said it didn't look good and they put him under anesthesia, took x rays, a culture, blood work, everything. They said his liver is huge, with liquid all around it which may be what's making it hard for him to breathe. They had to put him in an incubator with flowing oxygen to help him breathe. He asked if we wanted to take him home or leave him overnight, and so he stayed the night. I figured it would be best for him because he would be kept warm and have a long, dark, quiet night to rest undisturbed. The vet thinks it is chlamydia, but isn't sure. He gave him a shot that he said if it's chlamydia, he should look better within the next 24-48 hours. He said this morning Sunny looked a little brighter but was still breathing too fast for his comfort and is going to give him another shot. I am leaving now to go see him, and possibly take him home. I am so scared, and hope that he'll be able to pull through this.

I hope he's better today and is going to get his health back. That liver being huge is not a good thing and I pray that he improves. You have friends here who are watching out for you....

Sorry to hear that Sunny is not doing well. It was probably a good idea to leave him at the vet last night. I wish the two of you the best of luck and a fast recovery.

Thank you very much everyone for your support. Sunny is only 10 months old. We went to see him this afternoon, and I was nervous of what I was going to see when I got there. I thought for sure the vet would bring Sunny out in a towel because when I last saw him yesterday he could barely stand and was laying down in the incubator. It was the saddest thing I've ever seen. I was in the waiting room today and the vet came out with Sunny perched on his hand. He seemed really happy to see me and was really alert. The vet said he gave Sunny another treatment, and that he's doing a little better. He hasn't gotten the bloodwork results back yet, and the chlamydia test won't be back for about a week. So right now we don't know for sure, but we think it is chlamydia since he appears to be responding to the treatment. We were able to take him home... he seems a lot better than yesterday. It has been chilly out today and it will be cold tonight, so we brought his cage in (he is usually outside) to keep him warm until he gets better. He is climbing all over his cage, more than normal, so he doesn't seem to be weak. He also hasn't stopped eating since we got home about five hours ago. His appetite is great, and he's very active, so I hope those are good signs. The vet said he should be improving with each day, and to bring him back Tuesday for a check up. I will be keeping a very close eye on him until then.
