Kloud

My budgie Kloud just doesn't seem to trust me he always flies around his cage when I put my hand in there. Well at least he doesn't bite me :aiwebs_00 . Is there any way I can get him to sit on my finger and trust me. Thanks. :icon_smil :icon_smil

Hi Scott,

I don't know for how long you have had your budgie, but I know it takes a lot of time and patience to gain their trust.

Also, I would not put the hand inside the cage. Try to put your finger at the door and call him. It is less scary.

Don't give up. Talk to him every day with a soft voice and offer him treats.
Good luck!

Hi Scott, how long have you had Kloud? If he is new, you have to give him time to get used to your presence and the sound of your voice. Don't try to reach in for him. When you change his food and water, remove the bowls from inside the cage, if you can. This will help him get used to your hands being in his cage, and he will learn that they aren't dangerous. When he gets to the point where he's not running away from your hands, then you can work on stepping up. It may take some time, and once he steps up he may not let you remove him from the cage for a while.

Do you let him have out of cage time every day? When he is out of the cage, you can work on training him to step up on a stick perch. You can use one from his cage so he's at least used to the sight of it.

Here's a good link to a page on training....Take a look around the rest of the site too, it has loads of info.
