Quinoa - A Healthy Grain for Birds

3 or 4 weeks ago we picked up a small bag of Quinoa for Sydney to try. Tried him with some plain..and some mixed in with his soak & simmer or with the Quinoa and frozen veggies. Suprise!..he liked it all.

Anyone else tried it?

Quote:
This grain is an excellent food for pet birds as its nutritional content exceeds most other grains, particularly in terms of protein. It has more than twice the protein of grains such as corn, rice, and barley. Quinoa also provides some calcium, phosphorous, potassium, Vitamin E, and B vitamins. The grain has a nutty taste. It can be sprouted or cooked.

I've heard of that being good. I think I'll try it on everyone too. I wonder if you can just soak it and feed it. I do that with other grains and they all eat it. Well, OK, Whiteboy just looks at it, but everone else eats it.

I LOVE QUINOA :) It's a really healthy grain for humans. I haven't yet convinced Beetle that he should like it as much as I do but hopefully that will come in time...

It's the fasted soak and sprout grain, works great. The tails appear quickly within hours. The only thing is being SUCH high protein you can disrupt things. The last time I gave too much and 3 of my birds sprouted pinfeathers from too much protein.

Also my Parrotlets got a bit hyper like they will do when they get too much protein. They loved the sprouted version so much I gave too much, imo. But it reverses in a couple of days. The pinfeather thing takes 4 days to subside.
