Ooh I can certainly answer this post....
My Hahns (Bacio). Age 3 1/2. entering sexual maturity. By far my most 'relaxed' bird. Bacio goes to anyone that is friendly. He never nips. Oddly though, he's my only bird that isn't 'affectionate'. Bacio just likes to sit on my should and give beak kisses, but doesn't like head scritches. He's very communicative. Will sit and sing, laugh and chatter whenever the mood strikes him. He is also the most intelligent = he figures out problems and puzzles that I give the birds much faster than the other two. He is also my only bird that truly speaks.
Bella - Illiger's macaw. Age 2. Not really sexually mature yet. Bella is hands down my most affectionate bird. She LOVES head scritches and to snuggle. however, only WITH ME. She is my only bird that nips other people. I think this is her terrible 2 stage. She is also what I consider the closest to nature. Bella is the one that climbs down off the cage to explore new objects and plays the most with her toys. She is very independent. Illiger's have quiet voices, too. she makes a sound like a crow and that is about it. However, recently she has started talking more, such as hello and baby. I"m working on getting her better socialized to address the nipping.
Bebe - Yellow Colared. age unknown. Brought in as a foster, but she is never going anywhere but here! Bebes had fear issues with hands and was nervous when I brought her home. However, she is now quite a clown. She is hte only bird that 'sings' with me and laughs when I do. Also very affectionate, but I have to be conscious of how much I touch her with hands. Bebes only bites people when they move too fast for her and she is unsure of expectations. Fear biting, I suppose. but with gentle, patient people she is quite happy to hang out on a shoulder or knee.
In general, I LOVE mini macaws. They are really, really fun. I have heard about nippiness, though. But quite frankly, none of my birds ever bite unless I do something that makes them feel unsafe. Email me if you'd like ot know more.
