First be sure they are legal to own where you live and anywhere you may move to.Many US states have bans and restrictions on ownership.
Quakers in general are funny and smart. They have a better chance of speaking than other birds their size. They love to shred paper and will often weave the paper[or anything else they get their beaks on] between cage bars. They sometimes can become territorial about their cage and make maintanance difficult. we are new owners to a breeding pair and a single (female) as a pet... we love the croaky almost squeaker toy/crow sounding noises they make .... sometimes they get very very loud! but thats nothing a quiet "shhhhhhhh" and whispering and gently talking to wont prevent! and yes..... they are definately cage defensive.... unless very very tame and even then I think they can be. they are so much nicer when out of cage. they are beautiful my husband likens the markings and minescule lines across they're green plumage to peacocks..... they may be simple colors... but they are beautiful!!! and they eat with their feet holding the food alot... to us that was new... we always had cockatiels and parakets prior. we LOVE ours!!!!! absolutely! they're a touch bigger than tiels... but they are much heftier and wider! they are wonderful to own as long as they dont get going too noisy and even then I guess you could learn to tune it out a bit! WE LOVE OUR QUAKERS!!! they are the reason my husband fell in love with parrots as well!

I love my quaker, they are great company, never a dull moment, they are very funny and cheeky parrots. They can be cage agressive and if allowed, will bond with just one person, to fix that just make sure all in the house socialise with the Quaker, feed and cuddle and with the cage aggression if you make sure your quaker is let out the cage for a time during the day, mine is out most of the time when I am home, you wont have the problem. I got mine from the breeder when he was 3 months old, within a week he was talking and whistling, very smart little beggers they are.
