Should I get Another Bird?
Well we are getting a cockatoo in a few weeks but I really want to get a cockatiel or mabye 2 along with the cockatoo. Althoguh the cage would be in my room but when I get home they would come out with the umbrella. Would that be fine do you think?

....ok umm...probably best to get them at different times so they know they get to know you and are trained before another comes so there wont be 2 or 3 birds that are scared and trying to be trained all at once...so maybe if you get the tiels now and get them trained it will be easier than getting them all at once...and as for having them out together...not sure on that one...the too is alot larger than the tiels and it only takes one bite to kill them.

I don't think cockatiels are appropriate birds to be companions to an Umbrella 'too, or any cockatoo for that matter. I'm not saying you couldn't keep both in one household, but they shouldn't be out together.
Cockatoos are incredibly demanding birds and difficult to take care of. If you're not an experienced 'too owner already, I wouldn't recommend trying to juggle multiple new birds at once. Learn everything you can about cockatoos and be sure you can provide your bird everything it needs before introducing additional demands and distractions into the mix. |

i would NEVER expect a cockatoo to get along with a cockatiel. there is a huge size difference, and their temperaments are totally different, and a poor little cockatiel would never be able to defend itself against a 'too.

if you really want a second bird and you would like for them to be friends eventually, get a bird of similar size. there are tons of med-sized birds out there, its hard to recommend one without knowing about you or your family life, and everyone's personalities in your family, lol.

Hey , dont expect anything (no matter the size) to get along out of the cage except for another bird of the same species. I mean it does happen but you cannot count on it. That doesnt mean a teil or any other smaller bird in the hose wont benefit your too> I did the same thing and was thankful I did. I went to get a teil but ended up with a small Green Cheek Conure. They didnt get together but just having another bird for company to taLK TO all day was way better than being alone alone. Its fine to have to birds you get out at different times. Mine were both clipped so they were out of cage and on different stands across the room at the same time anyway as long as anyone doesnt have the habit of getting down and "wandering"
