Growing old with your Fids

Has everyone made plans for the future with your birds? I have been thinking about that a lot and using statistical information to plan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longevity

Quote:
Spain:. . . . . 81.02 years in 2002, 82.31 years in 2005
Australia: . . 80 years in 2002, 80.39 years in 2005
Italy:. . . . . . 79.25 years in 2002, 79.68 years in 2005
France: . . . .79.05 years in 2002, 79.60 years in 2005
Germany: . . 77.78 years in 2002, 78.65 years in 2005
UK: . . . . . . 77.99 years in 2002, 78.4 years in 2005
USA: . . . . . 77.4 years in 2002, 77.7 years in 2005
So most of us have an average life expectancy of 77 years plus, barring unforseen circumstances.

Here's some interesting articles I found for estate planning for pets.

I had to find another website for Princess Parrots here.

This is something, because of my age, I've thought a lot about. Using the life expectancy chart as a guide, I have about 15 years left. Sydney, tiel, just turned 1 and hopefully will reach the 15 year average.

Luckily for me, Donna is younger so should something happen to me, Sydney will still have mom.

Sure wish I had "discovered" birds 40 years ago or so. My grandfather raised budgies but for some reason I never really got into them. Oh I'd handle and talk to them, help him clean the aviary but that was it. Ah well..my loss.

Maybe I'll move to Australia and pick up a few extra years.!

I'm really at a loss with this subject. I have just a few close friends, none are "bird people". While they love my fids...I don't know if any of them would go to the extent I do for their care.

I've thought about looking into the local parrot rescue...but I heard they won't adopt out to families with children or furry pets...Gypsy ADORES kids and they both have been raised with dogs around...I think they would truely miss that part of the "flock".

should tragedy occur, Kelly most likely will only keep Cricket and she as well as Nathanial have been instructed to go to "my favorites" in the Firefox browser and go to the on line bird place and ask for help.

^ Dibs on Zoey!!

My best friend will take my birds and keep them as long as it takes to find good permenent homes. But we are young, and while there are no garanutees, we should outlive all of fids with the exception of possibly Scarlett. If I have children and they show an interest, I would love for them to stay in the family.
