Feathers, feathers, everywhere !

Pita is the incredible molting bird. He's going thru a molt, and will be 2 in April......everywhere I look there are feathers. I have found enough feathers to make a new bird......!

No he's not plucking, I've checked really good for that. But everytime I look at him, a feather falls off. Most of them are the tiny ones or the fluff, but I've found quite a few bigger ones......LOL

Here's what I do with the bigger ones

I'll get pics of Pita tomorrow. He's in birdy dream land now.

That's a great idea to do with the feathers from a molt or that have fallen. You could even make a collage of feathers. How nice!

feathers, feathers everywhere

Our 2 yr old gray is just finishing her molt. She is covered in brand new tiny feathers. When hubs came home from work, after I had vacuumed twice that day, I told him he needs to call the bomb squad cause I think she blew up. But with 10 other birds, she's not the only one.

I love to save Sundown's feathers!!

The mad molt is on here too. Heavy on the mad. One of the greys is being downright nasty./ Everytime I get near him he makes a karate 'waaaaaaaaaaahhhh' noise.

Hmmm.. you don't have any pictures of Pita anywhere do you???

I have a drawer (or two) full of tail and flight feathers from Sage and Pepper; my girlfriend has asked me several times what I am saving them for...

I never have an answer but I can't bear to just throw them out.

I adore your grey.

I love all of the framed pictures of Pita!! When my Scarlett stops being a nudist, I'm going to replace all the pictures of her I lost in the storm. She's not so good at posing, though. . . I'll get her to look at all of Pita's pictures and learn from the little quacker!

My mom has me on a mission to save any and all feathers that my bird lose (with the exception of the down feathers), because she is a milliner (hat maker) and specializes in Edwardian era victorian replicas and uses just about any kind of feather she can get her hands on. She was over the other day and said how beautiful Salsa (my GW) would look on a hat. I told her that she can have a full bird worth of feathers as soon as she molts them and I collect them, but nothing more and not before!! About every couple of days she asks how many feathers I have collected.

I think getting a collection of molted feathers from all over the body and making a collage of that bird is a great idea! It's on my to- do list :D

Ash is molting too and usually she hardly sheds any feathers at all and now it's like BOOM! hehehe!

Your framed pictures are beautiful! I have a sqare window sill dedicated to lorikeet ornamants and pictures and art behind Ash's cage <3

For a while collecting feathers sickened me because when my ferret killed my first lorikeet, she ripped out all his neck feathers- there were tragically beautiful feathers scattered all over the floor for me to pick up. I still have them in my "memories" box.
