Question about Lovebirds

For those of you that have had them or know about it, what would you say is the average size of a Peach face Lovebird? Benji is 47g. Vet said he is normal sized.
I am asking because while at Petsmart a couple days ago they had some Peachfaced Lovies for sale. They all looked like Benji on steroids!!! Near twice his size visually!

I dont think they feed any thing but seed. So they could be overweight. It tends to happen if they are more stationary. As you know they are busy birds. Let us know if you buy.:O :))

Jim, I had a Peach face Lovebird named Poppy who I had for 21 years. (long time for a love bird to live). He was such a happy bird. Anyway, It's funny you mention how big the Peach Face looked at Petsmart. I was at our local petshop a few weeks ago and they had Peached Face Lovebirds. I mentioned to my husband how much bigger these love birds looked compared to Poppy. I never gave it anymore thought until you mentioned it. It's funny, I thought there might have been a new breed of Peach Face that somebody somehow SUPERSIZED.

Good point, Poppy was a male. I'll have to ask the petshop what sex the birds were. (if they know)

these guys were quite a lot larger. Kelly brought it to my attention wanting me to look at these huge Lovebirds. I was just reading there is a breed of peachface that is larger. A long feather or something.

Yep, here you go!

Although to be honest, the longfeather is so rare that supposedly it's not very common in the USA... thus I wouldn't suspect that it'd be in the pet trade... but then again some birds are just naturally bigger/smaller than others.... and lovebirds in particularly range in weight from 40-60 grams.

Thanks Monica, you learn something everyday. I had my Lovebird for 21 years and still never new about the African lovebird. The lovebirds I saw at our local pet store were certainly larger.
