Please help me find a GOOD avian vet in Minnesota for chicks!!

Does anyone know of or know where I can find a good avian vet in Minnesota that has experience with chicks? The babies aren't getting any better, are not gaining weight at all and the youngest one is starting to go downhill. He is still eating fine but he just sits with his eyes closed all the time and when he does open them, it's only a couple little slits. The others are active and look healthy but he isn't doing good. I brought them to a different vet on Friday and she said everyone looked fine and she didn't find anything else wrong but when she called today I told her they weren't gaining weight and that the youngest wasn't looking good and she said she didn't know what else to do except give them antibiotics in case they have an infection....not even check to see if they do first. I have called vet after vet and they have basically all told me that they don't have experience with chicks so they don't think they can help me. I am at a loss. I have looked online and all the vets I am finding are one's I have already called so I thought I would come here. I just don't know what else to do...nothing really seems to be working and so far none of the vets I've gone to seem to know what to do to try and find out what is going on. I am going to call the U of MN vet clinic tomorrow also and see what they say. Thank you anyone for your help. I don't even care WHERE in Minnesota at this point.

Hi...I'm soooo sorry you're still having problems with the chicks...I'll keep them in my prayers. I'm only in WI, but I found one vet online in MN that apparantely has a special avian certification. I don't know how far or near you are to him...just scroll down on the link. Hope it helps. Best of luck!!

hiya, I have Dr Gibbons listed as Glendale WI , so he might have moved since the 2004 list.
I'm glad to see people are using that reference tho!!! I'll pm you both the info on him since one of you are looking and one is in WI.

Thank you both! And thank you Lisa. I had already looked for the AVBP and found there weren't any here but that is a great list....now to get up early and start calling! I've already called quite a few of them but there are quite a few I haven't yet. I think I am going to call Dr. Anna Ulfeng first, I came across their website and it says that she studied at the Midwest Bird & Exotic Animal Hospital in Chicago and travelled to Holland to study avian medicine and pathology there. Seems like a good place to start!

another thought, to call some bird clubs in your area to see who they use, and or if they have a breeder that is willing to help you out

Hello!

Dr. Vicki Shultz at South Hyland in Bloomington is great, she goes to AAV and is very good with birds.

Try calling Avian Suites (Welcome to Avian Suites) and they can give you more vets names.
