Is it the season

I was scared to death last night. It was late (for me) about 10:00 p.m. and I went to put away my birds and my tile TY would not let me touch him. Sometimes he gets this way when he is tired. So I inspected his cage and I noticed some red poop. So I new I had to get the vet in the morning. My G2 across the room was going nuts. I am not sure if it was b/c TY was not feeling well or b/c he was trying to hump my hand and I would not let him. The tiel TY is molting for the first time so he has been chirping and whining loudly like crazy and now my G2 who just got out of the hospital is going nuts. The vet sait the red poop is from my tiel who (out of nowhere) decided to eat 1/10 of his calcium block which is orange. I followed up in the morning and his poop is much better just about normal as the vet said. My G2 BOSCO would not go to bed every time I covered him and turned off the lights he went crazy until I came out and laid with him on the couch and then he went to sleep. I put him back and we repeated the process twice. I noticed last night and this morning my G2 was throwing his food all over the cage and floor and playing with his toys in an aggressive form.

They both seem MUCH better this morning and everything seems normal. I will keep a sharp eye on them both.

I have several questions...
Is this type of behavior normal during spring with G2 this is his first year of sexual maturity so I am sure I am in for a treat?

Has anyone had a similar problem with birds eating too much calcium at once especially the type that is dyed orange?

My tiel is on his first molt what can I do to make him more comfortable?

When do G2's start to molt? I remember it was last summer but I am not sure exactly when it started?

Thanks,

Sam Yhey are worth every bit of trouble

Well you could try shaving the calcium block onto it's food if your worried about the one gobbling it up in one sitting. At least, you could control it's intake. As far as molting goes, showers or baths are the best thing for them when pin feathers start emerging. It helps control the dust as well. Sometimes, by the time you start to notice a molt it has already been taking place so start providing water or showers. Watch your fingers they get cranky.

Yes, it is the season for hormones. My Amazon started back in December getting hormonal & my CAG is starting to regurgitate this month again. My male Parrotlet Chuckie is starting to get protective of Daisy his mate - I am now the enemy to my little pint sized monster. Let the Rollercoaster ride begin!
