Wait till you see who I picked up at the FWCAS meeting last night!
I went the FWCAS meeting last night to distract myself from Ladybird not being home and to hear Lynda's Powerpoint Presentation on the Evolution of Birds that she picked up at the Parrot Conference in Houston in Jan.
When I got there, Two birds were in rusty old cages against a wall. I was told they were going into the rescue because they were picked up from the pound who didn't have avian facilities. Then Lynda said they needed to be fostered because 8 fids in the rescues were going to their new homes in the next few days and had been vet checked and cleared. OK, so you see where this is going.... Seems like their owners were retiring and moving to Mexico with their dog but couldn't take their two 20 yr old FIDS that they had for their whole lives so THEY GAVE THEM TO THE POUND!!!! One is a GW purple bellied Conure and the other is a large Quaker. They came with a big container of sunflower seeds. Their mineral blocks look like they have been there forever and I'm not sure their toys have ever been replaced or cleaned. Since they had been together for 20 yrs in the same house the risk of contamination was slim, so they are now occupying my back guestroom. When the vet brought Ladybird back to me this am, he took a look at the conure who had a scabbed over nare, removed it and cleaned out his nose-said it had probably been like that for years! Poor baby-is finally breathing normally again. They got their first taste of veggies this am, plus rescue remedy in their water and I added some Zupreem Avian Harvest pellets to their sunflower seeds. The Conure is trying everything! The Quaker is watching him/her. However, the Quaker keeps going back to the BIRDIEBREAD and nibbling so we'll see....Lynda is bringing me new cages and food later today. Guess who is going to be featured in the BIRDIEBREAD n/l this month from the FWCAS Rescue? ps. We don't even know what their names are yet, maybe the pound does?

Congrats and thank goodness there are people out there who are willing to give poor birds like that a loving, perfect home!

UPDATE: Two weeks later, they are even more friendly but are a little cage possessive of their new cages.
They are eating everything in sight and loving most of it. New feathers are coming in on the GCC and she hasn't touched them yet. The Quaker wolf whistled at me and the GCC makes kissing noises. Anyone in FL interested in giving them a forever home? Second time trying BIRDIEBREAD! ![]() First time on the porch ![]() Conure on playgym-I don't thing they had ever been on one before. ![]() Having fun on the porch
