Poor Birdy!

My poor little jessica had a real issue the other night.

Several night ago I heard a horible noise from her cage. Lots of flapping and I rushed over to her cage turned on a light and found her in the bottom of her cage freaking. I got her out and calmed her down. (poor little girl) I looked her over to make sure she was ok. (I think one of the cats was poking around and freaked her out) I found that she had lost ALL her primarys and a few of her secondarys. I was a little worried about her but she seems fine now. Is this something that happens when birds get scared? I have never see this before she even had a little dried blood under her wing. She seems great now and I see new feathers growing in now, but she gave me a real scare.

Rick

Wow, the same thing happened to our Budgie not too long ago, he got scared during the night (he's caged with another budgie). We noticed the next day almost all his flight feathers gone and very little blood.
Monica noted that birds can spontaneously release feathers to protect themselves, their tails for certain but maybe also the wings.
Check out the budgie section under "unusual feather loss"
