clipped wings doesn't mean your bird can't fly

I found this a good article. I want to take my african grey outside but I didn't know even though the wings have been clipped she can still get away.
I don't know what I'd do if I lost her. She is my best friend. Click on SafetyFirst down below---

I know this to be true first hand. One of my CAG's were clipped and got spooked and escaped.Luckily I was able to act fast and caught him.Tippy was stolen later that year 3 years ago and is dearly missed.

Yes, always a good reminder that clipped birds may still be able to fly. I htink more and more clipped birds are lost every year - because their owner's assumed they couldn't fly. Especially if outside and the wind hits them just right and they get spooked. They could go a pretty far distance.

Here is that news clip again how a guy lost his up in a very tall pine tree. He climbed up the tree to get his parrot and couldn't get down. He was in the tree for 5 to 6 hours.

Sassy, my clipped BCC, somehow managed to get out and has been missing ever since. I always thought that, being clipped, an escaped bird wouldn't get very far and could be retrieved easily. I was so very wrong! I still keep my flock clipped for their safety inside the house.

Yes, a clipped parrot must always be able to land safely, after a fall for example. If it canīt, the clipping is really bad.
So why clip at all?

I got both side of that coin here, clipped birds that can fly and a flighted bird that won't fly!

All of mine except the last, started with clipped wings for them to learn/train a bit easier for the first year. Angel-Rose has started growing her flights back, and is doing pretty good on recall, even though she doesn't go out without a harness. The others know recall too, and are fully flighted. The recall training is safety, but they still don't go out without harnesses on. If one of the kids leaves a door open, they could spook, and be gone. I just have a bit better chance of getting them home.
The last one Sailor, I made the descision not to clip, because she is a plucker, and I felt that it might encourage barbering and plucking... so we're trying to work around that.

Tiels especially can still fly with clipped wings. Just yesterday, I was at a BYOB BBQ in Brisbane (bring your own bird). One lady had a clipped tiel sitting on her shoulder. She got spooked and took off and the lady had to chase after her and luckily got to her before the crows did. I had two of my birds there, both wearing flightsuits and leashes so they weren't going anywhere.
