Hey all, I am in a quandary. I have been looking for a second bird, and have hit some stores in about a hundred and fifty mile radius to where I am at. I think I decided on the store I will be going through, but I ran into something disturbing.
I was at a store of a chain of two, and one store is clean and pristine. The birds are well treated, clean and exuberant. One store, was at one time in great condition, and has been going down hill. Now I noticed it was going down hill a while back, but any business is a roller coaster. So I give a little lee way. But I think things are gong to far. I went to see an eclectus a few weeks back (back when I started looking for an eclectus), and I noticed the poor girl (ekkie) was actually chased out of her cage with a broom stick. This set me off but I keep quiet… because I really don’t know how bad that is to most people. I just know I consider it insane. But the you gal looked fine, and liked my wife. But things happened and we didn’t end up getting a bird at the time. So we went back on Tuesday. The same bird was there, and this time once again I see her chased out of her cage with a broom. As was another ekkie (a boy), and a few other while I was there. Also, she now was obviously starting to pluck and had not had a recent shower. Her musk was almost overpowering. Her beak was peeling pretty bad (as was the boys). She (and he) showed all the text book signs of a shortage of vitamin a. And a poor environment. Now my real question is… do you think that sounds like I should be emailing the owners of the store (at the main store, not at the satellite)? Their birds are immaculate, as is their facility. It was just frustrating that this is one of those times I have frightened birds holding on to me for dear life. This to me is unacceptable. Thoughts? |

I think if you put it in a positive way .... " your store is great because x, y and z, but here are a few things that would make you magnificent......." they should appreciate the constructive criticism. If they don't, maybe they will still take a look and the birds will benefit. I suspect my IRN was chased with a broom at some point, it is the only thing that really alarms her.

I wouldn't expect one for a few days. They probably get in a ton of emails every day, and it can take awhile to go through all of those. Give it a little more time.

Honestly, I am not sure they desrve that. I sent the email twice, they should have read and responded. That they did not seems to show they do not care.

Or, it might have been read by someone who is friends with the manager of the other store. I would get on the phone or go in person, since you seem to feel so strongly about it. Obviously, the owner is not getting the message from a concerned customer.

Maybe instead of buying a bird from the pet shop or a breeder you could check some of your local rescues and see if you could find a bird who is in deperate need of a home. The rescues are overloaded with birds.
