Cage dividers?
We're getting a new Tucuman Amazon hen as a companion for our Tucuman male. He's living in a huge macaw cage and I hate the thought of having to take him out of his cage and put them into two separate cages for them to be introduced. I was thinking of finding a divider for his cage so that each could have their own half of the cage until I'm sure they'll get along, but my cage doesn't come with a divider and I wasn't sure if somebody out there makes them or if I'll have to make my own.
I'm also wondering if this will work, since I currently open the door when I get home from work or when I'm not at work and allow Tucci to go in and out freely. If I had the hen in half the cage (there's only one large door in front), I would either have to transfer him out on his perch and then close the door again and leave her in or they would both be able to freely move into either side, which might cause issues.
Tucci hasn't been territorial about his cage with our other birds. When our Quaker (his current love) comes over to visit (under very close supervision) he gets excited and brings her goodies to eat. Everyone tells me I can't leave him in his cage and just park the new hen next to him in our spare cage because it will still be "his" cage she moves into.
Any opinions? Advice? I do hope they will bond and breed, but am not banking on it since they'll be in the center of a busy household. My primary reason for buying the hen was in hopes of short-circuiting the Quaker/Amazon one-way lovefest so he'd stop calling across the room to her all day every day.
