Is this abuse?

Does anyone else find this sad:

Avian Fashions - Home of the Revolutionary Bird Diaper, the FlightSuit!

Now, I'm for the happiness of all companion animals and that's ultimately what's important. But, shouldn't we let them BE animals. Should we really dress up birds for our own amusement?

There's also a link for avian costumes and bird sweaters on that site.

I wouldn't do it, personally, but I don't think dogs were ever dressed for Halloween in the wild, either.

I think if the bird enjoys this new, interesting activity and it stimulates the bird mentally AND he/she really likes it, then it's ok to dress them up. Some birds would just love hearing their owners being excited and laughing, and obviously the bird would be getting lots of love and attention. However I think it's unnecessary if it's only for fashion, and I wouldn't ever bother. Some birds that pluck and live in cold areas need a sweater to be kept warm- but that's for health, not fashion! I don't think we need to make birds look any prettier anyway- they're gorgrous with their natural colours!!! Thanks for posting SDavid, this was interesting.

LOL, yeah I can see me trying to put that on my IRN! Nah, I'm not brave enough to try it! WHen I put a sweater on my dog in the winter, she stiffens up and falls over! She hates em! I don't do it to torture her, she gets cold on our walks, she is shaking so our walks are short lived in cold weather.

I'd only do it if I had a bird that was ok with it. Like had been trained from early on and showed no objection or stress from being put in it. Otherwise, definitely not. I had to admit I laughed out loud when I saw that cockatoo in the bunny outfit! But who knows what he thought of it really - you'd have to be there to judge - there's no way to tell from a photo.

Don't know if it's abuse, but it's a fashion faux pas for sure

Ok.. I admit it, I'm still cracking up laughing every time I look at it! I don't think Lucki would be too pleased if I tried to squeeze him into a bunny suit for easter!

I use the flight suits on my green cheek. She doesn't mind them at all, of course with a proper fit. I have a leash that attaches so she can go on my shoulder outside, in the car, store or wherever. They aren't as bad as they look. And it nice not to have birdie poo on my quests.
