Haha, a bit of a benefit there then jim!

Mikko was trained not to be shouty as we live in a converted house to 4 flats. We are on the bottom left floor. As said if mikko does get chatty to an overly audiable level, everyone else is out.

He's been taught that he's allowed to gurgle & chatter to his feathery little hearts content, but he's not allowed to shout or scream. I'd rather he let it out gradually through the day than random bursts of noise! I had a B&G macaw here for a while who was a bit of a screecher but to be honest nobody said anything, even in the evenings. I don't think unless your grey starts piping up anything crazy there will be much issue. It's surprising how little you can hear from outside of the room. Ask direct neighbours if the birds are bothering them to let you know, then you can slowly work on gradual training to reinforce lots of little noises instead of irregular loud ones

One thing that will help with the noise is keeping the birds all in the same room. Their contact calls won't be as loud because they will be right next to each other. I have a sun and several canaries/finches and haven't received any complaints. When you go searching for a place, you should be up front about your birds, though. Complexes that allow children and allow dogs/cats are less concerned about noise than adult complexes.

Wow thank you all for the suggestions. Marcia, thank you for the well wishes :)

I really wish I could teach them to turn down the volume. I have no clue how loud they are when I am at work, but every evening after dinner (after they have stuffed their beaks and their tummys are full) they begin another chat session, trying out ALL of their noises. LOL I tell them SSSSHHHHHH so many times. I have heard them from the mailbox and from the backyard. Yipes.

I am so nervous about sharing a wall with anyone because no doubt they will be heard. I hope I can look at some places that have end units and the room with the birds (most likely dining area) will not be directly against a wall that is shared. They all do hang out in one room. They just love to yap and yap. I love them for that!

I also liked seeing the related threads. That was cool :)

If you live on a second or third floor complex, find out where the bedroom of the tenants are that live below you and try to keep the birds out of that room above it. My neighbors have a very untamed dog, always barking during the day it starts in the morning, and I have to say I am thrilled my bedroom is on the second floor of my apartment, so I don't hear him as much. I have an opposite schedule to the 9 to 5 ers'.

if you have hardwood floors, lay some carpet down- or do a little soundproofing of your own, to muffle any potential irritation for your neighbors.

Thanks, ceangle! I am scouring ads for a small house rental or a "carriage" house rental. I am not looking to move in somewhere until SEP 1st, so a lot of what is available now certainly won't be then. Ahhh the joys of moving. Too bad I can't just move into any old apartment without being someone who has "issues". This isn't going to be easy.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! :D

I was the first one here at my complex with my CAG~now our complex has Orange winged Amazon and DH yellow Amazon and my 2 additions another CAG and BH Pi. The Amazon next door was very neglected and was screaming at all hours and is still here~neighbor is taking better care of bird.
I think that Apartments are being more accepting of FIDs in my oppinion.

Good Luck and Do not stress out too much~ you may get lucky I did!

I once lived in an apartment where my upstairs neighbor had 2 parrots. I do not know what kind they were because I was never introduced to those two birds, but I do remember hearing them yell at each other. I never complained and found that even though they were right above me they really did not bother me. I think what I loved the most was after one would start hollering the other bird would always say "shut up stupid".
