Question Birds and Apartment life?

Hi everyone. I have 2 eclectus, 1 African Grey, and 1 lovebird. Recently, there has been a change in my lifestyle (spouse separation) and I will be taking my "kids" with me, but it is looking like I will have to make do in an apartment/townhouse or condo style living since that is all I can afford on my own. This freaks me out because I am so used to having the space between neighbors and the luxury of living in a house with a large yard that it doesn't bother me when the birds are being noisy. Each day, several times a day, they get super chatty and squawk a little, too. I am nervous about moving into an apartment or close quarters with neighbors that they might complain. I have a couple months to get prepared, but this is keeping me up at night wondering what am I going to do....

Anyone out there live in close quarters with neighbors and have noisy parrots? I don't want neighbors to complain and possibly get kicked out and you all know it would be difficult at this point to try to teach them to keep the volume down.

Any advice you have or suggestions would be great. If I can afford a small house, I will certainly look into that, but I am really nervous about taking my kids into an apartment or townhome. It would be a relief if there was a way to know that they won't be bothersome. For example, should I try to get an apt on the end perhaps? Anyone with experience dealing with this, please advise.

Thanks in advance.

-Dana-

the nice thing about birds are the hours they are noisy. Many people are at work and not home. I am a maintenance manager for an apartment complex with 4 birds. I am not the only bird owner on property and there have been no complaints so far.

I agree with the hours. I live in a co-op and I can hear my quaker squaking when I come home. I'm on the first floor and the window he is in front of faces the front. When I enter, it's more muffled in the hallway. I will one day be inheriting an african grey and have no hesitations about it. I also have a neighbor with two lovebirds who boarded a cockatoo for about a month. On reports, the cockatoo was quite loud and still no one complained.

it also depends on your neighbors, i live in an end apt. first floor. my upstairs neighbor, nor my next door neighbor, complain, but they do here my sun, he can be heard from the parking lot too but everybody loves him, i showed him to everyone when i got him, i think that helps if you introduce them, then they know your not a bad person, and they're less likely to complain.

I live in a townhouse. I've never had anyone complain about my birds but my neighbors kids are very loud so if she did complain I would do the same thing & I think she knows it. I agree with the Jim. The birds are probably gonna be the loudest when people are at work. Crystal

If it was me try finding a multi family house where they allow pets.Living in a townhouse may be harder unless it is an end unit.I have a friend that has a Cockatoo and she had an end unit for a while she didn't have any problems.
I've lived in multi family houses with many parrots including a few Cockatoos. I had some very understanding neighbors and they didn't complain.Just don't move where the landlord lives that can be a problem.

Eclectus can be noisy I know because I am owned by 4 of them along with 14 other FIDS.We own our house now so there's no problems now.

I know starting over is tough I wish you well.

I live in a neighborhood where the houses are fairly far apart. However, with a macaw, you can hear her down by the mailbox. However, like already said, they are typically only noisy during the part of the day where everybody's at work. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you do get complaits, be sure to talk with the apartment manager to get his/her opinions.
