Birds of a feather, sometimes get nasty

HI all.

I just joined up... and like the forum lots! I'll organise an intro of myself in the intro section later. But for now I'd like to get down to business.

For my Elcectus and Australian Native Corella, hand reared in the same bucket and (i'm sure) very well familiar with each other, there always seems to be nervousness and tension when they are in close proximity - you know a few talons raised, a few nips of the beak to one another. They're six months old.

Will these guys mature to be more friendly with each other?

Neil

Hi & welcome to BB. I asked someone the same question & they said there's no sure way of knowing if they will like each other or not. You just have to wait & see how it goes. I'm sure someone will be able to help out more. Crystal

You never really know IMO. I caught my grey preeening my macaw's tail one day, then them dislikign eachother the next. I have never put them on the same perch, but have held them together and they seem ok. I don't really know what to tell you; there is just no way of knowing what could happen. Even with birds having been raised together from chicks, they could still fight. It's like siblings; they have been together since forever, but they will still bicker. There is jsut no way of knowing what is in the future.

Can only echo what the others have said... and on that point, if there seems to be tension between them then it's probably best to keep them housed separately...

Yep - housed separately.

Yep, Pretty much all the research we did to manage two fids in the house pointed to having each their own cage.

One cage was possible, but it was suggested that it had to be big enough for each fid to have their own 'space' - ie way too big a cage to have indoors.

With regards to the minor spats, I guess I'll see how they develop - they're only 6 month after all.

Neil.
