The Petcraft site that mentions stomach aches blames asperagin. They apparently mean asparagine, which is a common amino acid. See Asparagine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I can't find any human-oriented websites that say anything bad about it. They don't say anything particularly good about it either since it's a non-essential amino acid.

Holistic Bird says asparagus is fairly low in oxalic acid: Food Pyramid for Parrots

Side note: I noticed that Monica and I inadvertently ended up citing the same article on different websites. She did it on Winged Wisdom and I did it on Land of Vos. The author (Carolyn Swicegood) is the Land of Vos webmaster but she also published this article in Winged Wisdom magazine, so both are original sources! (If this doesn't convince you that I'm anal then nothing will).

LOL Royjoy!

Steamed asparagus is probably safer then than fresh asparagus. Figured there was a difference between the veggie and the fern... but I found a scientific name for the veggie, looked it up in photos, and all I saw was ferns! So I was confused there myself.

Suz, that's what I was thinking... but I couldn't really tell with those photos I found... although to be honest I took more of a quick lookover than actually looking in deep... but still, found a page on asparagus, which looks like the veggies... then took the scientific name, put into google images, and saw mostly ferns...
