Had The Biggest Scare!

One of Nalah's rope perches had broke & was freyed but she still loved it so much so I never took it out. She also has a favorite hoop swing that she sleeps on everynight thats right next to the rope perch. Well, I was getting ready to leave for work Thursday & I was telling the fids bye & to have a good evening. When I got to Nalah, she was flapping her winging & was hanging by her neck & chest! Somehow the rope perch got rapped around her body, twisted through her wings & around her neck. I about died! I grabbed the scissors & tried to cut her loose. But couldn't because she kept biting me & the scissors. I quickly ran and grabbed a towel. I wrapped her up so she would calm down long enough for me to cut her free. I finally got the ropes cut & had her on the floor trying to cut the rope off her neck & wings. The rope was so tight around her neck I had trouble getting to it with just one hand. I took the towel off so I could use my other hand but she ran! She was gasping for air. I quickly toweled her again & finally got the rope off. I called my boss to tell him what happened. I just sat there on the floor for over an hour holding her & praying to god to let her be ok. I haven't cried that hard since my dad died 4 years ago. About an hour & a half later she was calm so after cutting down all dangling things in her cage I put her in back in there. The vet said to watch her to make sure she was doing ok. She was pretty quiet all evening. The next day she was back to her old self. When I come out to check on her she screamed out "HOW YA DOIN!" I have never been so happy to hear her say that. I will never leave anything like that in their cages again, no matter how much they like them. Just had to share. Anyone else have any stories like this? Crystal

Thankfully, no stories like that here. I am SOOO glad she is ok!

I cut the frays off. I worry something like that might happen. Hubby thinks I am overprotective.

I had Mulberry get his foot and toes all wrapped up in thread from one of the boingy shoe laces that come on some toys. They ADORE them, but I don't let them have unsupervised access any more.

Crystal - I am so glad to hear that Nalah is ok!! And of course you too!!

I know your situation with Nalah is a lot scarier. I haven't had Indy very long and his nails were getting long. He was playing on the keyboard and one of his nails got caught under one of the keys. I never heard him make such a piecing sound!! He was panicking and was trying to go in every direction to get his claw loose. I thought for sure he was going to rip his leg off. I had all I could do to hold him still but some how I did. As soon as he got loose he went right into the cage. He sat there with his leg tucked up and shaking. I sat there crying because I knew he was scared and possibly hurt. There was a point when I just lost my breath. I love him so much and it's hard to imagine him not being with me. I was lucky that Indy was ok and it could of been a lot worse. But I definitely learned that no matter what I need to watch what he is playing with and make sure his nails are clipped.

Nalah freaked out when I put her back in her cage. She sat there shaking for a minute & looking around like something was gonna get her. I just kept talking to her & she calmed down. Crystal

Crystal- I am So glad she is ok! We had a scare the other day with out dog... Just proves you have to be so protective of them...
