Help I think my bird ate part of a plastic bag!

I thought he was eating his pistachios and when I looked over he started eating the corner of the plastic I can't find the plastic rippings everywhere (I think Ic aught him early enough) but I don't know if he injested any plastic if he has like 1 or 2 milimeter sized pieces of plastic bag in his tummy will he be okay? I can't take him to a vet right now so late at night and my grandpa's being an awful **** right now (I go downstairs to tell my mom and he told me no one cares and to go back to bed) Someone, help???

I'm sorry you did not get a response as quickly as you had hoped, but in all emergencies, PLEASE do not wait for the internet. We cannot diagnose or treat your bird remotely, only offer advice -- and if there is danger to the bird, I think we would be suggesting that you get to a vet ASAP. I hope your bird is doing well.

im glad your baby is ok! but please also keep in mind--this is a message board, not a chat room. you cannot expect an answer instantly. as stated above-- in an emergency call the vet

That's just it...I live in an area where the nearest avian vet that can be trusted is 45 miles away and I don't trust them, that's based on other people. I refuse to trust them because of what the care of another doctor did at their firm did to my dog. They gave him stitches he was allergic to, took 3 days to figure it out and he died on the 4th because these idiots didn't test to see if he was allergic....I mean can you imagine having a 2 pound tumor removed from your pelvis then having the allergic reaction rot away your flesh and eat up your lower internal organs because some idiot didn't test for allergies? I mean...you trust doctors for your pets and your human needs, why should our animals be any less treated?! ...*sigh* Just..I mean think about this for a second they always test even if there's a minor chance to see if you'll have an allergic reaction when you go to a hospital RIGHT? SO why on gods green earth wouldn't they check your pets? Even if it's a fraction of a chance for an allergy, they had plenty of time to plan out the surgery and do testing to ensure his survival which was a 95% chance until this lady got ahold of him. Another story about dogs, my dog before him died because the vet didn't do research on older dogs getting a particular heart worm shot and he died within 18 hours while we were away at school (he had the shot at 5PM the day before). And all we got was a letter of appology. Like, OOPS we're sorry we killed your animal have a piece of paper to console yourself. That doesn't fly in my book... I know this went off on a very very sensitive topic for me about vets and I have been trying to educate myself on self care for my birds because honest to god I can't trust them with my dogs I'm afraid to take him in for my bird. I am considering taking Avian Veternary classes JUST SO I don't have to take him in ever.

Most birds will pass small pieces of plastic. Keep an eye on how his poops look, if there is a blockage the poops will smaller and loose.

Gary's right. Keep an eye on him. Replace the newspaper several times and monitor the poops. If there is a problem, take him to the vet. I understand how you feel. We trusted a vet with out 16 week old puppy. She said she would be able to save him, he died that night. She gave up, not him. He was a fighter and every time he heard my voice tried to survive. We never took our animals back to her again. If there was an emergency, we would, but fortunatly, there are other vets nearer to us. If I had seen this post earlier, I would have posted. But remember, you cannot rely on the forums to answer your questions. Some people may not know what to tell you in a situation.

i'm glad to hear that your bird's still fine... generally, they pass small objects - concern is in order when they have sharper edges...

i'm also sorry i didn't see this post earlier - and i'm sorry for you that you had such bad experiences with vets... however, for the vast majority here we're not vets either.... you NEED to have somebody you trust in case something happens with your animals.... keep looking, there are really good vets out there
