This morning I went to an appointment for physical therapy on my knee. When I got to the doctors office it turned out the doctor called in sick. I was standing there making another appointment and glance out the window (ceiling to floor window) and there was a pigeon on the ground. I asked how long it had been there. The two woman in the office said it has been there since last week! They had not seen it move or eat.
I suggested we call animal control to find out what to do. I keep thinking there is someone else but they were the only ones I could think of at the time. If only I had my computer to ask everyone here! Animal control was no help at all. They simple said pigeons sit on the ground all the time and it will fly away.

Knowing better, I then went over to Animal Lovers pet store where I take Indy to get clipped and they gave me the name and number of a guy that saves pigeons, Bruce. I left him a message and before I got back to my car Bruce called me back. He told me if I could get the pigeon in a box he would come out and get her. Back in the pet store I went and got two boxes one without a top. The storeowner also gave me so seed to feed the bird, so back over to the doctor’s office.
Turned out the pigeon could fly but didn’t have any tail feathers. She flew over to the restaurant next door and two people who were walking in helped me corner her so I could place the box over her, which I was able to do. I called Bruce and he was there in 20 minutes. Bruce picked up the pigeon and was surprised because it was a baby about 3 or 4 months. This is why it didn’t have tail feathers. It must have fallen out of the nest. She snuggled right up to him. She appeared to be in good shape, her crop was full and he said the bone (sorry don’t remember what it is called) was just a little sharp so she was getting food just not enough.
It turns out Bruce lives about 5 minutes away from me. I asked if I could call and possibly come see her in a couple of weeks. He said of course. He currently has about 30 pigeons that he is helping out. I am so glad that there are people like Bruce out there that are willing to take these poor birds in and care for them and for Animal Lovers for having the information I needed!
