How long should it take a sun conure to grow his wings back?

My bird was clipped febuary the 23rd, his wing tips are very sharp and hurt if he smacks you with em...but they don't seem to be making any progress. It's just something else I've noticed recently with him other than instead of standard brown Conure eyes, his are Grey Irises I wonder if that's rare. Anyway....just curious how long those take to grow back and should I get some striptic and go to a vet to have his 6 broken shafts yank (poor guy needs some fly time in the fly room and he busted half his tail feathers) me being inexperienced with the yanking of feathers I haven't pulled em myself yet. they are not filled with blood, but for the months I've had him he's failed to pull them out himself.

first of all... how old is your little guy? younger birds are clumsier and therefore a little more prone to messy and broken feathers.... if the feather is NOT a blood feather (aka it doesn't carry a blood vessel anymore and doesn't bleed when it breaks), there is NO need to pull those... i wouldn't pull them EXCEPT for blood feathers since it doesn't hurt the bird when there're there, but as you might imagine it's not the most pleasant thing when they get pulled.... chances are that he won't pull them himself if there's no need to remove the broken feather...

regarding to when they grow back, it also depends on how old your little guy is... he has to go through a molt to re-grow the clipped feathers. feathers are not like hair which grows constantly... twice a year a part of the feathers are replaced by new ones (molt) - the "old" ones literally fall out when the new one comes in... so it might take 1-2 molts until all the wing feathers are replaced... first molt is around 6mth roughly

Jean Luc is 4 years and four months old. My first conure was born without most of his one wing so I've never really dealt with a flight capable bird. He's been trying to flutter around and during the 4 months I've had him he's managed to bust those other feathers. (Though one time it was my fault because he was on my shoulder and decided to see if he could fly down 13 steps of stairs and I grabbed him by his tail just before he hit the ground...didn't mean to grab him by the tail but that was just what I could grab I didn't want him to fall and he broke 1 feather from that). He's been doing good about not busting the other ones as of late.

Your best bet is to fly him on your hand (i.e. holding him on your hand and moving your arm or even body about the house forcing him to fly but not letting him take off). Once he goes through a molt (which should be within 2 or so months) he'll get some of his flight feathers back, although its hard to say if he'll get enough to fly again.

Just how short are his wings clipped? He should be able to glide downward and not just fall when he tries to fly. I have to clip my birds wings about every 4 or 5 months.

I didn't have him clipped but his are so short that he falls like a rock and more than once I've had to dive across the room to grab him. (It wasn't that I wasn't watching him I was just engrossed in homework )

There are special wing clip scissors that prevent those sharp quills hurting you. You can get them for approx $6.10 and well worth every penny. They have rounded edges, so when the feather is clipped, is rounds out the quill. It looks nice and doesn't hurt if if happens to catch you. Here is a link for them:

I don't clip my 8 parrots, but I'm also VERY CAREFUL on their out of cage time so that they can fly (which I find is much healthier for the birds). I've found it would take 6 months for a clipped feather to moult out and regrow another. Be careful not to clip the feathers too short, as it can hurt the bird if he falls off his cage. Do the glide clip, so if they fall, they can glide to the floor rather than drop.
