Talking The story behind Shamrock.. Alexandrine ringneck

The original owner.. an elderly lady.. died about 16 months ago, she had the ringneck for at least 5 years that the person I got Shamrock knew of before her death... and the person that now has bird has had for a little over a year now.... none of the family liked/wanted the bird and was sold for $200 to the woman that I got it from...

She has 2 children an 8 yr old boy... been teasing ringneck since school let out last week and a girl toddler... and a teenage stepson in her home.. along with hubby...

She felt that bird would be happier in another home and the new owner was tired of caring for..
When she found out I had parrots/birds... had me contacted first .. she knows of the dog and cat rescue’s been doing on and off for over 15 years in area now..

I was told.. the ringneck would drop head.. and then gently nibble on her.. after several times of this.. would bite HARD and bring blood...

She did not even know about scritches or that the bird was asking for lovins..

She only wanted $200.. that she paid the relatives of the owner for bird...for the bird, cages and stand..(I have not even seen the stand yet.. could not be fit in the van) and am not sure I even want to see it.....

When Shamrock was delivered to my door ...Wed June 13 afternoon....

About cried when I saw the bird in this cage (the first time ever saw Shamrock .. was when the bird was on way in my front door)...
The poop was layered so deep in cage and on the PVC perches that were in the cage.... you would not believe it..
the first time I tied to change the cage papers.. had to use paint scraper to get the poop glued newspaper off tray....
I gave her the $200 and an extra $20 for delivering bird to my door.. for gas..
She was already talking about going to town and partying of the night..
asked if she paid me $ 60 would baby-sit her 2 brats for the night.. NOT..

They had called him Buzz.. cause if you got him buzzed on beer or "smoke" ... he would shut up.......

Just wanted these people out of my house.. after the second time they hit the side of cage.. to shut the bird up.. while she was talking to me....
After they left I immediately fed the seed mix that came with bird .. to my wild squirrels.. it was mostly sunflower and corn....
Put on rubber gloves and started washing food and water dishes after removing from cage... dried dishes and gave fresh water with AVC and some of the tiels Small Hookbill with safflower and dried fruit mix.. with some small mazauri pellets mixed in...

This bird just got a whole different life.. and does step up nicely.. since second time I asked.. so has NOT been treated like this whole life...
Between buying more food, crock dishes, toys and other stuff for this bird.. have already spent more $ that I paid for bird...

And now looking for a cage..... but that may be awhile.. since I am on a fixed income....

So I don't know.. if you would count Shamrock as a rescue, adoption or purchase...
But is here NOW.... is my green beastie now.. kiss.. kiss...
All I know.. he is in his forever home now.. as long as I am breathing..

There's a place called Cage Connections online where you can get cheaper cages last I heard maybe that would help? I think it's free shipping when they do specials. =)

That is an amazing story. How lucky Shamrock is to have found you. And Shamrock is the perfect name. It sounds like you are BOTH really lucky.

Some people should not ever be allowed to have any animals - glad Shamrock has found a peaceful home with you.
