Talking Shamrock.. day 4 .. birdy lovins

Saturday stared early here..

I had to be at a church for a funeral at 10 AM.... got up extra ealry so I could feed and water the flock and start getting ready..
Went to the funeral.. then the wake afterwards....got back at house exaused around 3 PM...

When I got home.. checked Samrock and the three tiels.. gave everyone fresh food... KS mix with extra fresh veggies .. and layed down for a 2 hour nap..
After I got up.. pulled the KS mix..... gave everyone sprouts ..... and started making my rounds.. with individual time for each fid.... starting with the tiels..

Then got to Shamrock...
I wish someone had warned me about ringneck lovins...
I was able to get Shamrock to step up nicely Sat late afternoon and come out of the cage... and he went straight to my should of course... ...

My long hair (hair is now just past wast when lose) was not in its usual tight braid but had a hair tie at about 4 inches below my shoulders ....
He imediantly went to preening the loose locks/strands... and then nusseled his head agains my check and started trilling.....

At first I freaked.. with that big beak that near my face.. but started to relax . when he very gently gave me kisses and then rubbed head against the side of my face again...
This went on for almost half an hour.. going between being preend and loved on .. by head rubbin.... with the occasional kiss thrown in..

When he had decided that was enough..... walked back down my arm.. fluttered to ground.. and then climbed back up into his cage....
And proceeded to get more groceries.. then beat up some more toys...

I then went to computer.. and started info searching on web about ringnecks again..
after about half an hour of this.. ran across a coment.. about ringnecks giving lovins by rubbing the top of thier head angains human neck or cheek....

I wish that I had know this ahead of time.. I would have not been so afraind of Shamrock ealier ... with that beak near my face that can crack brazil nuts... if I had know this was a way a ringneck gave lovins...
But I still think I need my head examined for letting the same beak near face.. he could have also had copped a 'tude and about taken my nose off...
Old Man witness this.. and told me I was nuts.. and was worried about a bad bite and an ER trip..

End of a long day... and the biggest even with flock.. Me getting lovins from Shamrock ....
Still slowly making progress with Snow Flake also.. will do update on tiels.. Sun or Mon.. with pics ..
camera mem card is full of pics from funeral and wake right now.. and have not DL yet...

Suz -- that is wonderful! You've made about two months of progress in four days. I must admit I almost had a coronary the first time Gelly decided to groom my eyebrows. Every now and again she tries to clean my teeth when I smile -- what a hoot. Aside from preening my hair energetically (though she has never broken any or pulled it out), I've never had any hurt at all from her. Sounds like Shamrock is another sweetie like mine; I am SO glad for both of you!

I think it may have had something to be with my hair being loose.. I had braided it last night before I want to bed.. so it would not tangle..
And this AM (Sun) Shamrock had a 'tude again with me.. until I took\l the braid out and put it back out of my way in loose tie again....

I fugure that his orginal over might have worn glasses (becaure he has not even attempted to bother my glasses and still working on that one with the tiels ) .... and had long hair that she wore loose or with low tie.... because of his reaction to my hair.....

I am having the playstand delivered to my porch today.. and it will be THOURGHLY cleaned BEFORE comming into my house....

I am going to try and find out who the orginal owner was.. the elderly woman that died over a year ago....
I have lived in area for over 20 years now.. and may have known her or of her..
and can possibly get a better idea of Shamrock's age from any of her friends or family members....
and also hoping can see a couple of pics.. of how she kept his cage and the types of toys he had then....

I had never intended to get this large of a fid.. .. or one with this big of a beak..

But could not let him live in the conditions he was in... ...
but was afraid that the next person that bought him would care for the same or worse... ... if he did not come here...

Originally even considered rehoming after getting him on a healthy diet and everything cleaned up and him in good living conditions.. cage ect...

But THAT idea lasted less than 24 hours....

Realized THAT by even the end of day 2....

NOT gonna happen now.. ...
this elegant green bird has worked his way into my heart with a quickness...
between the lovins and trilling and purring at me...

And calling for me with flock calls .. whenever I am out sight for more than 20 min...

But I have a feeling that is going to get old quick..
one of the reason looking forward to the playstand being delivered today..
even though I know I will have to do ALOT of scrubbing to clean..
that way he can come into den and even watch me in kitchen also...

He may be a bit less needy when he realizes that he has found a forever home. Lucky Shamrock (and lucky Suz!)

I love reading your updates, Suz. I would never have a large bird for many reasons so i am living vicariously through you. I am jealous of all those lovins.

Suz, you have made such great progress. So happy things are working well with Shamrock. There is nothing so rewarding like a fid's lovin.
