Check the petfinder classifieds. I have seen an ekkie in NY and MA and maybe one in NJ, I am not sure about that one.

*nods* I know they're a bit expensive and since I'm moving out for the first time.. (Don't worry I have nest feathering about 4K of it for emergencies I'm a late bloomer for leaving though...:
:) I am just hoping to find one that's not over 400 dollars or just needs a good home. I saw one in Westpoint in NY on an army base adoption site but I haven't been gotten back to since I think they're closed on the weekends. MA though? ::Checks:: If it's in driving distance I'd be up for it I'm willing to go out into PA, NY, MA, NJ and such if it's under 500 miles. I need the driving experience for long distances into strange places too

Find a reputable organization to adopt from. It may be worth a drive to New england to Foster parrots or to VA to Phoenix Landing....You will be required to volunteer, to take some classes and PROVE you know the responsibilities of parrot ownership.......
Adopting a bird from an unknown past can be tricky, you could very well spend more on the rescue than a newly weaned chick. However, the experience (in my opinion) can be one of the most rewarding experiences in your life. Word of Caution: Please make sure that you can make a perm. commitment to a "2nd hand bird"----you will not be doing a bird any favors by rescuing him only to have to relinquish because you meet the man of your dreams who is allergic to feathers.....Just a word of caution. (by the way, all my birds are adoptions & I wouldn't trade the experience for anything!) GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Sushek was technically a second hand bird, the lady thought about keeping him, but she'd kept about 5 of her birds from her aviary that were defunct already and had no more room so I felt blessed I came along and got to be a part of his short life. Jean Luc my sunny is a rescue too. I DID look at Phoniex landing and I've done volunteer work in the past we used to rehabilitate dogs from the shelter that would have otherwise been put down from over crowding and a lack of staff to manage the behavior issues so I'm hoping that'll help smooth things over and I can get Writ of Rec to vouch further my commitment towards a bird. Also, I do expect all guests who enter my home to Read some Forewarnings before entering (I have been known to confiscate cigerattes from my known smoking friends until they leave the house) not that I don't trust them, I just prefer even their cartons be left in the garage so they don't feel tempted for a quick smoke out on our deck. And if I did have a friend who came over and was allergic to feathers, guess what? 1$ solution wear one of those mask things painters use, the paper cotton ones. They don't like it it's their problem the birds stay and I won't budge on it. =P

I have been trying to rehome a 3-4 year old Female Eclectus now for about 2 weeks! If you're interested, please send me a PM so we can set up a time to chat. The bird is located in the Reading, PA area.

It is my understanding that Phoenix Landing (DC-Metro area and parts of N. Carolina) does not adopt out of state. Parts of MD, maybe but NJ isn't part of their jurisdiction, so to speak. Many animal rescues, be they for birds or otherwise, have such conditions. That's not to say that exceptions aren't made... or that you can be put into contact with someone in your state by contacting a rescue in another state. Definitely check out Petfinder.com. You may also want to browse craigslist.com or hoobly.com. From time to time you'll find someone needing to rehome a pet for any number of reasons... And in some instances, the adoption fee might be reduced or even waived. -e-

I'd love it if it were waived. Heaven knows I can only support an animal I've got 14K to pay off for finishing college and mom knows I've been bugging her for a bigger bird to play sibling with mine for my birthday (I think a Bird verses alchohol for a 21st birthday is a GREAT substitute eh?) Phoniex landing did call me back about it but I asked em if they'd keep my name on a list just in case since you're right, I'm out of their area. I did PM Mr. Rick up there and am awaiting a response.
