Manzanita Tree Stands
Has anyone else bought anything from the Avian Oasis?
I purchased 10 tree stands from them and everyone of them except one, had drywall screws sticking out of the wood and the wood where they screwed the perches together was cracked because they did not predrill the wood. They did not plug any of the holes where they did countersink the holes. Most holes were not even countersunk. I also purchased 15 cage top stands and they were barely held together. I do not even think a lovebird would have felt secure on the perches, they were that loose. The owner told me to go ahead and rework them to make them right and he would reimburse me for my time not to mention the materials needed to plug and sand all the holes. After doing much of the work he decided that these photo's represent a "normal" tree stand of his and that no reimbursement would be forth coming after all. I have probably over 100 photos of flaws in their workmanship. None of the photos being duplicated! Be very careful of who you buy from out there folks. Get references! Ask around at bird fairs and on the forums. Don't make it have to take a lawsuit to get what you originally paid for. What a shame.

Unluckily, I've either seen these stands for sale or seen similar play gyms with exposed screws. Another concern might be issues of metal toxicity from parrots mouthing and chewing on the exposed screws. Did you replace all the screws with stainless steel screws?

tree stand
When I build my stands, I use #12 Spax screws. They are the strongest in the industry. I also make absolutely sure that there is no visible part of the screw showing, anywhere. I use the correct length screw so that they do not pop out the opposite side. I also countersink the screw hole and glue a plug in and sand it smooth so the bird can not find the screw head (to start to chew at and either take the tree apart or get zinc poisnoned). I have been building tree stands for a number of years and I attend fairs regularly in my area and have never had anyone comment on a bird taking one of my trees apart.
I take my business reputation very serious. In the bird community, you have to or you will have one time customers only. Much of my business is repeat customers. That is one of the reasons I was just awarded the Editors Choice Award from Pet Products News. Evidently a customer of mine submitted one of my products , not me. I don't even know who submitted it. They still have not come forward to let me know. This is quite a prestigous award in the pet industry. I am honored and it drives me to keep the quality of my products at the very highest in the indusrty. Here are a couple pictures of what my tree stands look like.
