I owned a Pit Bull, Bubba.....he was the sweetest, best dog I ever had. I hate the stigma thats put on them, when it's the owners who should held responsible.

Here's a really good video about Pits...please watch it all the way thru, it is not what the title implies, There is no baby attacks, it's a really sweet video...please watch.

Just wow, I've met bad pit bulls and good ones, did a report on the mistakes by people on how gentle they really are and I actually lost a friend over it because he refused to believe a pitbull was anything more than a trophey you put out in the yard to eat people because that's all they're good for. I just couldn't talk to him after that. Thank you for sharing that vid.

That is so cute. Mother pitt hen. LOL I used to raise baby chickens & they used to love to chase my pitt around the house. He was scared of them, he's a big wimp. LOL It was funny though to see a 100lb dog running from something that doesn't even weigh a pound. Crystal

That is such a sweet video! I love the way she mothers them and cares for them like she does- it shows a different side of dogs :)

It's so sad how pit bulls get their bad rep. They are incredibly sweet dogs, but are very strong. I recently heard a statistic that small dogs are more likely to attack than larger ones, but larger dogs cause more damage.. it's just terrible to pin it on one breed. My younger cousin got attacked my a dog several years back- mostly to his face. He has had to have many surgeries and still has huge scars, gaps and they have had to use a 'balloon' to stretch his scalp back. When I tell people "He was attacked by a dog" normally their response is "Pit bulls are so dangerous" or something to do with them. It was actually a German Shepard. Pits are some of the sweetest dogs you can have, they remind me a lot of our boxers, who people often mistake as pits and get scared, when all they want is to attack you...with kisses that is!

My only advice is to know the background of the mother & father. We got Bubba from a friend of my ex's. The mother's name was Suds, father was, Tank, and the uncle was, Granade....LOL At first I didn't want one, because Bubba's family's heads were so big...LOL We went to pick out a pup, and they were feeding, Suds rolled over, and Bubba was the only one that hung on...we both said "that one!" I put him in my lap, he looked at me, and started licking me, and that was it...I was gone, true love. He died around, 15 years ago, and I still have pics of him around.

Whats sad is, it's a risk getting one from a rescue or pound, because you don't know the owners or the parents.

The only other advice I can give you, is just give it lots & lots of love! We smothered Bubba with love, so even when we played hard with him, he never drew blood. lol You could feel the power in his play bites, but he never bit hard, and everyone loved him.

Keep us posted, and if you need to know anymore just PM or E mail me.

I would recommend not getting a puppy. If you get a dog past sexual maturity, you are going to know their personality. Especially if they are dog aggressive, or not. That generally does not show up until after sexual maturity and with a puppy, you simply do not know. An adult dog will have temperament fully developed, and a good rescue group will know the dog inside and out prior to making him or her available for adtoption. Best of luck in your search!

Some areas I hear have a hard time with pitts because some of them are bread from fighting stock. I'm not sure what the situation is in Philadelphia and in some areas they're banned from being owned.
