Safety of outdoor shrub

I've looked through the web, and looked through many prior posts, and cannot find an answer to my question.

I want to know if the branches and leaves of the contorted filbert are safe for birds. The contorted filbert's scientific name is Corylus avellana 'Contorta.' It's also called Harry Lauder's walking stick (weird).

I put Quidditch in it the other day to take some pictures, and they were so cute, but I suddenly realized I had no clue about the safety of this plant. So she has not had any more posing sessions on the filbert.

Thanks!
Leslie

Corylus avellana researches as the common hazelnut. Hazelnuts are OK for birds (they sell a nut mixture with them at a local bird store) but not sure if the branches and leaves are OK. It bears further research. What a weird looking plant!

I found a website that says hazelnut branches are safe for perches (no mention of leaves). I think these branches would make awesome perches. Here is a picture that shows one of the curly branches in better detail (the shot of Quidditch isn't as good as the other one though).

I don't have the answer for you, but I'm loving the pictures of Quidditch and the tree. Quaffle looks pretty cute too.

Thanks!

We couldn't get Quaffle to stay in the bush long enough to take her picture. I think the branches are too skinny for her big toes.
