Hi Iam posting this to see the safe/proper methods for cleaning a cage for a new bird that has been used by other birds.It is a like new and iam just looking to have it clean healthy and not pass germs from old birds to the new birds.So all you out there with your methods throw'em at me and remember the bird will be in quarantine and away from other birds so cage must be really clean im guessing.

That, and using hot water! When I want to do a deep clean, I use Dawn dish soap, and hot water only! It hurts, but it works!
I've had a cage that smelled like cigarettes... did a good scrub down, then sprayed with vinegar (white vinegar only), let sit bout 15 minutes, then rinsed well! No more smell! There's also Grapefruit Seed Extract. I don't know how powerful it is, but it seems to be quite powerful and sort of an all purpose cleaner (anything from carpets, to counters, to bathrooms, even fruits and veggies!). At most you could use bleach (or another harsh chemical), then use dawn dish soap and rinse well.
