Exclamation Sydney is sitting a small hospital cage at home

Sydney My Congo Grey Male who is just over two....has not been acting right the last few days.....Since I was sick the past 3 weeks, I have not been physically able to spend as much time with him as I usually do....there were days I was so dizzy and out of it...that when cleaning my bird room and their food...Several days I could not even stand up.....I would crawl around on my knees to clean and feed everybody....When I was tired.....I just laid down on the bird room floor((good thing its got great thick carpeting for resting**LOL)) and just rested until I felt better.....Sydney was the only one to come down and sit on the cage bottom to watch me...I think he was checking to see if I was alright....
Since then he has been screaming for me all hour of the night when he hears me up to use the bath room or if I cough. He does not do this with my husband..only me...as if he can tell my foot steps.....
He has also been acting extremely nervous, and throwing himself against the cage bars....he has fallen off his perches too many times to count. His face is scraped and he is sleeping if he is not having a panic attack.
I was finally able to calm him down last night after turning off ALL the lights in the house and being completely quiet....only to wake and find most of his feathers around his tail off,and big scabs all over his skin where the feathers were. Now his beautiful tail is still in tact, but the rest of his butt is bear.
I figured I should put him in a small hospital cage to keep him from having range of his 2x4x6 ft cage where he can get hurt more easily.
It is snowing here in Nj...we are under a state of Emergency and no one is allowed on the roads...it is near blizzard conditions. I have called and made and appointment at the Animal Medical Center in NYC for his vet monday morning. Since I have moved, this will be an 80 mile trip...ONE WAY.....
I dont even know if I can find it from where I am now....I hope mapquest is at least close the the correct directions.....
Has anyone out there used Ken Dazen in Cherry hill NJ? He is and ABVP. Also there is The University of Philly has an animal hospital there....Has anyone been there and have used Dr Karen Rosenthal or her students?Again she is ABVP.
Both Dazen and Rosenthal has no appointments open as of now till at least Wednesday..... But if I can get a recommendation that is good and can make me feel comfortable... I will make an emergency appointment for monday,,,And I CAN find my way to them...they are between 20 and 40 miles away each from me...both straight shots down 95....

If anyone has experience PLEASE respond. My Comcast Email is down, and I can even email any of my exhisting Dr's to get advise....I have called, and am waiting for call backs.....
I am kinda at a loss as to what to do...
I think Sydney is going through anxiety issues...but there more going on now.....The picking started OVERNIGHT.....

Thanks.............Lisa :icon_cry:

Dr. Rosenthal is absolutely wonderful. I have a friend on my board who sings her praises all the time.

Lisa,

In case you don't find anywhere closer to you (or Philly) also try the
Animal Hospital in Tinton Falls, NJ.
I'm not sure that's the exact name... but they have 24 hr energency services and they were wonderful the one time I needed them for my bird.

There's also:

Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital of Oakhurst
(732) 531-1212
225 Monmouth Rd
Oakhurst, NJ 07755

Or:

Ocean County Veterinary Hospital
838 River Avenue (Route 9), Lakewood, NJ 08701.

Dr. Briggs is the avian specialist there.

Still a bit of a ride for each of these places,
but certainly closer than NY or Long Island.

Unhappy call me....

Lisa,

Oakhurst is Dr. Doolan. I know they are closed tomorrow though. Oakhurst is right near me. I don't know if he is there Monday or not, ( he usually is on Mondays), but if not Dr. Fanders is usually there on Mondays. Why didn't you call me? I will try and get intouch with you tonight. In case you get this first, call me.. I don't care how late. It is snowing really hard here also. With us being on the shore, it is mixing with some sleet... where inland you are getting all snow. I am worried. Is Emma Lynn OK?

Thanks everyone for your responces.... Regina called an read me the posts because I wanted to stay by Sydney who is on the main level of my home, and the computer is on the lower level.
He seems to be resting now...I made him a collar to wear so he did not wake up nekkid...but we had a bit of a fight getting it on, and then he did nothing but roll around like a wild man biting everything in his path trying to get this collar off....then he did this fall backwards flip thing and the collar came up over his head and he had it in his beak chewing it and choking himself((never said Sydney was the sharpest tool in our shed))
So the collar is off....and he is in his smaller cage...and he is resting for now. His appitite is good...his voice is normal...so are his poops**LOL** his papilla look good, and his eyes and ears are clean....so is his butt....but its red, raw and nekkid.
My vet at teh AMC did not call me back, as of yet.....I know Rosenthal is not seeing *new clients* and I dont know if I go to U of PA..if I am going to see a student or a DR?!?!?!
Dazen is also a consideration. *((thanks Mike)) I will call a few of my old bird club * aquatintences* and see what they think...I know that Dazen sends all the emergencies and after hours to the U of PA........I called and asked his office.
((SavvyMoon))My Daughter works in Tinton falls at the 24 hour care center.
((thanks for the info))

Mela.....I live by McKinley.....I have been there before....is he your vet?
If so you live by me....

Thank you again everybody.....Please keep Sydney in your thoughts and pray he doesnt wake up nekkid...or have something internally wrong.

"I'm off to email my old vets through my yahoo account...and hope they recongize me.....
Lisa

Lisa, my thoughts are with you and Sydney. Have you considered taking the train to NYC if you go? From Trenton train station , take NJ Transit and it's only an hour. Then you can hop in a cab to the hospital (the train lets you off at 34th street station on the West Side). You wouldn't be stressed out trying to find the directions when driving, finding a parking spot in NYC (nightmare) and the best thing is you can sit with Sydney's travel cage in your lap and talk to him while you travel. I went to college in NYC, and this is how I traveled to go home to Philly. (Obviously once I got to Trenton - endof the line, I took another train into Philly) Just a thought - it's not too expensive - a couple of years ago it was 14 dollars round trip. The NJ Transit from Trenton to NYC is not scummy or anything - it's mainly commuting business people and students from Princeton and Columbia.

Best of luck to you and dear Sydney. I talked to my mom in Philly and she says it's a mess with the blizzard!
