Don , thanks for the links. One of them mentioned the 'blink' game. Humph and I play that all the time. I look him in the eyes for a second (not long, because it can be perceived as agressive) and then close my eyes for a few seconds. Then Humph will close his. Then I'll wink at him, and he'll do it back. It's really sweet.
Humphrey also likes the "I drop it, you pick it up" with him doing the dropping - he likes to do this with the TV remote Corbett loves the ball game. He has a stuffed soft ball and my mom will say, "Corbett, get your ball!" in a really excited voice. Corbett will get the ball in his beak then throw it to my mom. She rolls it back, etc., etc. Very sweet. Corbett also likes to play "peek a bird" with the bed covers. Michele and Humph

:icon_mrgr I found these games in a book I purchased over the weekend.
1. The human play gym. The bird's favorite person attaches toys to an old sweatshirt and wears while holding the bird. Just as birds are often drawn to chew on buttons and jewelry, the bird will probably start chewing on the toys. Invite your friends, neighbors and spouse to play with the toys. Delighted coos engourage the parrot to play with the toys. The same toys can be put into the cage before the bird is returned to it. Again, praise the bird when it explores a toy in order to encourage it to continue playing independently. 2. "Keep away." This is an elcellent game for piquing a parrot's interest in a new toy or new food. This game is played by showing the bird the toy or food only very briefly: the bird is not allowed to see the toy long enough to become afraid of it. Then the favorite human can show excitement over having the toy and befin playing with it. If the toy can be shredded, the person should shred it a bit. If it can be eaten, the person should eat some, all while the bird can watch. Show the object to the bird again. Give it to a rival that will enjoy it. Show it to the bird again. Play with it again. Evantually the bird will start leaning closer and closer to try to find out what it is. By this time the bird is given the object, it will be very excited to have it. Most birds will succumb to curiosity within a few minutes. Some birds may take several sessions. -------------------- The book is entitles "Parrots: A Complete Pet Owner's Manual" it's by Barron's. I have a book that they put out many years ago on Parrots. This one is much more detailed. Have fun!!! ~don |

I like to play Peek A Boo with my birds. I lay a blanket on the floor whilr I play with them and with a towel, I place over there body and peek underneath so they feel comfortable and not scared. I call my birds name while there covered so they will crwal from under the towel and hen they come out I say PEEK A BOO! It makes them excited but also helps reassure them that they can be comfortable with a towel over them. I got this idea from someone else to help with my bird when he needed to get toweled for clippings and nail trims. It's helped with himm feeling more comfortable (as well as myself) when it comes time for grooming but also good way to just spend time. :eusa_clap

I do the peek a boo thing too, but with the sheets when I'm making the bed. He loves to stand in the middle of the bed while I throw the sheets up and out over top of him. Then I run to a different side of the bed and just peek underneath and call his name. He turns around, fluffs up and comes running to me with his head down. He loves this and it's sooooo cute!
