I love mine. he's 15 months old, and a real delight. he is trained to fly and comeback. he was a rehome to me at 11 months old. he took to me very easily. im very lucky, most times, its a longer ordeal. when i got him, he already knew how to step up, turn around, dance, and play dead, now he can also shake hands, fly free, and say good boy and hello.

they are louder than the smaller group, such as green cheeks, but beauty makes up for that. he doesnt screem as much as he used to. if you get one, first, understand, they are loud, and make sure your family and neighbors, undrstand this too. the reason tiki's prior owner had to give him up, is because her family couldnt take the noise.

your chances of getting one are good, they are very popular.

if you want to see a real doll, look at all posts, and threads by gbird.

Be ready for the noise level. There is one in my bird club. I have to sit on the other side of the room. I am not used to the noise. They are so pretty though.

They are great birds! Very acrobatic and make you laugh. They aren't great talkers, though the one I had years and years ago could say a few things clearly. They do make a lot of noise. The one we have now wakes us up from three rooms away wanting her breakfast and to come out. The one we had years ago became very nippy and Nicky, the one we have now, has her nippy moments, too. They really like to snuggle in your hair, but otherwise aren't very cuddly and don't really like that much petting. They are very busy birds and need lots of toys and room to move around. They aren't very destructive, though, so toys tend to last a while. As said above, they are relatively easy to find. Please don't support the pet store trade by buying one there. Try looking on Avian Connection or another breeder resource to find a reputable breeder. Look for a breeder who refuses to sell unweaned birds. Pet store birds can have genetic problems, diseases, and/or nutritional deficits and we don't want to encourage "parrot mill" breeders.

Noise aside, I think they make great pets and tend to get along with the whole family.

Julie

They can be noisy. Pita only really screams when I leave the room and he can't see me. Other than that he's not that bad. He does chatter alot .

Here are some pics to help your decision (any excuse to post Pita pics...lol)........they are the clowns of the parrot world

Sunnies are great, and like they said, beware of the biting when they're older, they're beautiful sweeties as babies, but sometimes when they get older you need to prep yourself for the possibility of their adult hood.

sun conures are great pets - if you can tolerate the noise... though it heavily depends on the bird, the bottom line is: they can be loud. our ms. bella girl is fairly quiet and she only screams when you walk in the door besides the normal morning/evening screatches.
that being said, if you don't mind the noise a sun conure is an excellent pet bird - they're clows as gbird said (and showed ) and they are very lovable. the biting is an issue you can potentially run into with EVERY bird species when the baby matures, the key is to offer enough chewing toys (especially for sun conures) and keep handling the bird.
sun conures are definitely less nippy than the smaller greencheek conures - GCCs are lower in the noise level (which doesn't say much... i sometimes have a hard time believing this when i listen to valo), but they seem to use their beaks otherwise

Hi... Thank you for you all for your time to answer this one ... well... I'm sure the screamer are not gonna bother me too much since my parrot who was a hell raising screamer when he see something what we got .. he had to have it when he see something we put in our mouth.. so I'm used to hearing bird high pitched or ear splitting screamers so much .. all we did to tell him to hushed up ... or knock it off.. or even we give him some veggies or unsalted cracker . or cereal ... of course my mom spoiled him rottened, I sometimes give her call to check in with her by that time Bert screaming in the back ground .. I said , Mom ..what Bert screaming about...? is somebody in the kitchen getting some munches..? and she said, yeah your dad getting some ice cream or snack cake .I said figured he want some too, of course my dad will give him some little bit of snack whatever he eating ..shaking my head. Now in my household .. I don't know how my husband gonna handle the screaming bird in the morning and evening.. he will have to get use to it.. but he never home most of the time since his job take him out of town often .. thank for showing me the pic of your sunnie, very cute bird ..gbird... I might settle for sun conure but will check out the place I know where to find the breeder who raised them. About the parrot cage size .. what type of cage to get .. ? I just want to make sure the sun conure have plenty of room as I have seen some are for cockatiel and small parrot but not too sure about them as they look too small to me I checked at pet store and the one I saw one on bird board this person got from ebay .. no offended as I didnt mean to hurt anyone feeling ...since I'm used to my parrot large cage on stand .. kinda hard to decided what to fit for the conure bird . Got few more to do some research on other birds and also the cage too before I settle on for one I wanted .. will keep you all posted when I decided my decision to pick kind of bird to choose.. prolly the sun conure .. jeez it hard to choose one I want .. mini macaw and goffin cockatoo is out since I can't afford one of those .

Petey McSweet is a talkative, feisty little bird with a mind of his own. He hates men, and if you allow him on your shoulder, he'll bite (hard!) when he gets bored up there. He's also not very touchy-feely (he's not a baby bird anymore, either), although he likes head scritches, the occasional pet on his back, and he'll step up nicely when he's in the mood. When he's not, you have to use a stick, or he'll bite the crap out of your hand! Mostly, he loves having the freedom to come and go from his cage--and the macaws' cages, too (when they're out in the aviary)! He has great joie de vivre, and I love the little guy :-). I don't find him at all noisy--but that's probably because I live with a houseful of large macaws! He does vocalize, but not at a volume or pitch that I even notice, most of the time.

Quidditch can drive me crazy -- always wants to crawl in my shirt, screeches every morning for her bean mixture -- but she makes every day better. Sun conures are loud at times, they're not big talkers, but they are very affectionate and devoted birds. I wouldn't trade my little girl for anything. I think that anybody considering a sun conure should spend some time around one; not everyone can tolerate the screeching like some of us.
