As I sit here this evening I have come to the conclusion that Charlie saved my life today.
Let me tell you how- I put some potatoes on to boil on the electric hob, came back into the lounge and must have fallen asleep. About an hour or so later I woke up to Charlie creating one heck of a racket and running his beak up and down the cage bars. Due to a medical condition I have no sense of smell!, so didn't realise for a few seconds what was going on, glanced into the kitchen and saw the saucepan and thought OMG the potatoes. Ran into the kitchen to find a totally dry saucepan with some small, burnt to a cinder, lumps in the bottom and a totally burnt and ruined saucepan. Thankfully the saucepan was stainless steel and the windows were open, but I'm convinced that if Charlie hadn't made the noise I could well have found myself with a fire on my hands.
Luckily there was no smoke or anything like that and all seems well with all the fids, but I think extra treats might be in order tomorrow plus a new smoke alarm for me!
Close call
