I own 4 blue and gold pet macaws and a Severe macaw. I adore them and would have a hundred if I had the space, money and time. I've yet to meEt a BG that I couldn't fall head over heels in love with. I'd like one more macaw in my lifetime: either a GW or Ruby macaw. That having been said, with 10 parrots already living at my home, my glass is already quite full.

Well we was concerned with ours not drinking water. The whole time he has been here I saw him yesterday drink for the first time. He was raised on a water bottle. Well No local pet stores have a glass water bottle. So I had to get a humming bird feeder an a gerble water bottle to make one. I still don't think he likes it cause the one he had was a 5/8 spout. So I order him a lixit 32oz glass bottle with a 5/8 spout. Then today after getting his bath I saw him drink from his regular water bowl. SOOOOO Now we feel a lot better. I guess being new parents of a macaw we don't know what to expect. On top of everything I have been giving him medicine for a bateria infection in his intestions. Which I heard was common for a bird his age. We even had him tested for PSITTACOSIS. Everyone keep their fingers crossed. We get the results Monday. I heard that is was very rare but just a precaution. When he goes back we are thinking of having him sex also. We call him a he but we might find out he is a she LOL.

Who told you its "common" for macaws to have bacterial infections? That's simply not true. You aren't adding meds to his water, are you?

I have a HARLEQUIN and a GB. Hoping to get a Hyacinth in a very near future. All birds are fascinating creature. My next step it is to own a bird of prey and to work with it. I am in the process to take a training course and prepare to get my bird in the spring.

You are going to really enjoy having Stitch as a part of your family, he is a gorgeous bird. My life has really changed since I have had Hannah in my life. She is the worlds biggest MOOCH, if I go into the kitchen then she thinks it is for the sole purpose to bring her something back to eat and I had BETTER have something for her when I go back by her cage, she will eat anything and everything that isn't nailed down.
We have her out the majority of the time that I am home, she is very inquisitive and curious wanting to be in the middle of whatever I am doing 100% of the time, l Have had her for three months now and she is going to a year old in about two weeks, she is getting very clingy and needy but I like her that way(its good to be needed) When I go outside she will at the top of her vocal capacity announce my departure and wont quit down till I get back, the wife hates it, in fact one time she got a bit irritated and when I walked back into the house she said "Please shut that stupid bird up!" and right away I heard in the typical Parrot type of voice "Shut that stupid bird up" MAN.....I just lost it, I was rolling on the floor just laughing my arse off, Hannah has not really said much yet word wise, but she said it loud and clear, I was so proud of her, usually you hear that from CJ our CAG who is a ball of gray feathers with attitude. With Hannah It makes my mornings when I go to uncover her and her eyes just light up the moment she sees me, like I said you are going to really enjoy having Stitch in your lives...............LMB PS I see on your profile that you are a welder, I am a pipefitter myself here in GA, maybe we will run across each other on a job one day, that would be cool. |

I have a macaw and also a Umbrella cockatoo.
I have had Teal (B&G) for 10 weeks now. We was surrendered to me, and I still talk to his old mommy and send her pictures. He has been settling in well, but still leery or trust but gaining slowly with me and ME only! LOL. When I got him he had a water dish. I use a water bottle for Ellie (U2) so I switched him to a water bottle also and he has adjusted beautifully. I didn't buy a "special" one either. I used the rabbit/Gerbil one from Wal-mart and they have done great with them. I am very leery of glass water bottles because they sometimes like to unhook they and throw them on the floor, followed with a great laugh! So the plastic it betting in my opinion. Teal is 8 years old and is highly intelligent. More so than other macaws I have been around. His vocabulary so far that I have been counting (I write down every word he says) is at about 35-40 words and about 9 full sentences also.
