which bird?

i really want a gcc but my mom doesn't want another cage in the house. regardless of which bird i get, there is going to be another cage in the house, some just not as big as others...lol out of these birds, which on do y'all think would make to best pet? when you vote, please tell me the pro's and the con's of each bird. ie. loudness, talking, whistling, tricks, etc.

thanks, andrew

I voted parrotlet - because I own one. But really - all 3 are good choices - it just depends on what you want exactly. I would love to have a linnie - but haven't actually met one in person yet.

Parrotlets - can be feisty, but like to be scritched and cuddled (well mine does anyway), have heard they can learn a few words, and are very pretty. They do require a larger cage than one would think - they are very active for their small size. They can be loud at times (but nothing close to a larger bird) and perhaps it depends on whether or not they are in a quieter household verses a noisier one. Can be aggressive to other birds in the house.

Linnies - what I have heard is that they are very quiet, docile, so am thinking maybe not quite as feisty as a parrotlet? I have heard that some Linnies can learn a few words - but not sure how many do. Like the parrotlets - there are lots of color mutations available. "AFFAVIARY" BREEDER LINNIES,P'LETS, CANARIES, FRILLS, GLOSTERS, MICHIGAN, DESCRIPTIONS, PHOTOS, VIDEOS check this website for more Linnie info. Denise is a wonderful lady and has lots of knowledge of the linnies.

Bourkes - I really know nothing about. I think Monica knows quite a bit about them?

I would go with the GCC if that's what you really want, because Stephanie's right; if you go with the parrotlet, you're goning to be getting a cage probably big enough for the GCC anyway. Plus I have a GCC!

i can't handle it either but i have heard that GCC are quieter than some cockatiels in terms of general loudness. i have a lovebird anyway so i am used to the screaming and such..lol

I found a GCC breeder near my house with birds for sale for only $175 dollars, a whole $50 cheaper than my old choice. i think i might just go with a gcc again cause i really, really, really want one. all this bird choosing stuff is really tireing and hard..lol

If your heart desires a GCC, then I think that just might be the bird for you. They have an EXTREMELY devoted following -- everyone I know with a GCC (or other conures in their family, like the maroon bellied, black-capped, etc.) cannot stop talking about how wonderful they are as companions. The one downside I have heard is that they can be a little nippy at maturity.

P-lets are the most darling parrots in the pet trade IMHO. Don't get me wrong: I love my wee lovebird and would recommend them to anyone. P-lets are just so tiny and cute and spunky. They can be aggressive with other parrot species so do keep that in mind if, for example, you had Tweety or Peaches out playing.

Linnies and Bourke's, from all that I have read and seen, are very quiet compared to other parrots. The only downside I see to linnie's and Bourke's is that it can be difficult to find them locally!

Best wishes!
