Question port-a-pet, what do you think?

so i was on ebay looking at bird carriers.. its not something i plan to use often.. just incase shadow needs to go to the vet, or take a car ride for any reason.. (he WONT wear a harness or flight suit)

so i saw this on ebay and thought it looked kinda cool... they had a link to their website so i clicked to check it out. im thinkin of buying one so i was wondering what you guys thought about it..
does anyone have one?? if you click on the "happy customers" link to their site theres tons of birdies...

one other question is, if i were buying a carrier to transport shadow in the car.. would it be better to have something with a perch?? i dont drive like a maniac or anything (at lease i wouldnt with shadow in the car)
but im wondering what you think would be better.. i wouldnt want him to be sliding all around in there..

here is the link to the site..

Cayman has a little cage I use when we go to the vet and it has a perch. He loves the car. I haven't used this but it looks like you can fix a swing of some sort in there. I don't remember how big Shadow is or what type of bird he is, but he can't be too huge to put a lil swing in there if he wants. You could always be their guinea pig for us and let us know how it works

When transporting my fids to the vet I use a cat crate (dog crate for the Macaw's) with a hole drilled in the side to screw in a perch. They are next to there cages so I can get them into them and out of the house in case of an emergency (fire). I started doing this when my friend lost all of her birds in a terrible house fire. Also living in the north country it get's cold and I can wrap the cat carrier with a towel or blanket easier to get them to the car.

Personally, it looks like it could be chewed through in a matter of seconds. I would worry about that.

That's the only concern I have about it. Otherwise, I think that the product is pretty unique.

I use one of those critter carriers that you can find at pet stores and bird stores. They come in a variety of sizes and work great for taking your bird out to the vet or for travel.

ETA Link for the carrier I use for Beetle:

Take Me Home Plastic Carrier - CARRIERS & TRAVEL by Bird Paradise

There a variety of sizes; the one I use for Beetle would probably be too small for your GCC. The medium or large size would be better. The carrier comes with a small plastic perch which can be used or replaced with a different one if you wish.

I agree, it does look pretty flimsy. I also think it wouldn't provide any protection in the event of an accident. I use a cat carrier (Vari Kennel brand?) with a thick towel on the bottom for my guys to grip as I feel like a perch invites falls. I can buckle the carrier in and don't have to worry about it sliding around or flying across the car in an accident.

for vet visits and other short distance trips, we use a travel case.... we have this for valo and bella, and it's pretty good as it's sturdy and has a perch

Avian Select Bird Carrier at PETCO

for longer trips, we have travel cages, which is pretty much a slightly larger cage sold for budgies which still fits on the passenger seat of the car.

personally i don't like the fact that it's not sturdy.... it's a matter of taste i guess

I totally agree with the others. There are a number of pet carriers at pet supply stores that are sturdy, come in a variety of sizes and styles and a whole lot cheaper. The one you are looking at looks flimsy and not too easily washed. Also, if anything should happen in the car, God forbid, a stronger carrier would be more protective also.
