Question about nail clipping

Stupid question,

I have had Jessica now for over 3 years and have only had her nails clipped like twice. They arn't sharp as she is VERY active and a good section of her stand is wrapped in that anti slip tape you put on steps so it is abrasive and seems to keep her nails dull. As well she has a cement perch in her cage (not that she's ever in her cage....)

I was looking at her nails today and they seem fine. (not super long or sharp)

Is clipping a needed thing? or is it more to keep them from drawing blood from the pet humans? can they grow out of control.... ie so long they can't let go of the perch... and how does it work in the wild?

I'm a little reluctant to try my self (as the place I took her even drew blood)

If the nails don't bother you, the only consideration is whether they are too long too properly grasp and ungrasp the bars of her cage. (i.e., she needs to easily be able to release her nails from a bar when she opens her froot) From what I understand, the rule of thumb is if Jessica can stand on a flat surface with all parts of her toe flat on the ground without the nail forcing her toe up, it's fine.

From my experience previously I would only caution -- if you do decide to trim her nails -- to do it a tiny bit at a time since it's been so long between clipping. Whenever we went a long time between nail trimmings, we were much more likely to hit the quick.
