HELP Paradise got attacked by a DOG

Paradise our mini hans macaw just got attacked by a dog, not our dog. Her claw is bleeding but I dont see any breaks from what I can tell, she lost a lot of feathers. We put neosporn on her claw. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for her until we get home.

For those of you who dont know Paradise, we have only had her a few months and she is 10 years old and at home she is not too fond of me. We have been on a boat trip (her first) for a little over a week and her and I are making major progress. Today we are tied up at a Marina due to be home in a couple of days and I told her to step up and put her on my shoulder (major progress) I was walking down the dock to show my husband our progress and all of a sudden this little dog comes running up behind me and climbing up me and spooked Paradise and she fluttered to the dock and I just wasnt fast enough. I am in tears right now, our poor baby, she is also tramitized.

Any suggestions will be helpfull.

Thanks

Check to make sure there are no puncture wounds in her anywhere. Then clean her claw and try stop the bleeding. Put her in a calm environment to calm down..if there is no body puncture wound she should be ok.

Hi Courtzrocks, We lifted up her wings and didnt see any damage other than missing freathers and didnt think to clean her claw, how dumb are we. The bleeding has stopped and we put the neosporon on it. She is in her travel cage and covered, but I just lifted her cover and she is not under her santa hat where she normally sleeps and does not seem very happy.

Should we disturb her and clean the claw? it is almost 9 PM here or should we wait till morning? What do you suggest we clean her claw with? Soap and water or alcohol, Iodine? I just took a look at the first aid kit and we do have them all on board. Never thought about first aid items on board for our birds.

I would say soap and water. If you can do it without stressing her too much. My cockatiel was bitten by a dog but didnt puncture the body, only a scratch on the leg but the shock was the worst part...the next morning he was fine.

We are going to leave her alone for the nite, she is major stressed right now, just the fact that she is not sleeping in her hat tells me that. In the morning before we head out we will clean it well and put some more antibotic ointment on it.

The poor baby, she already got a hack job of a wing trim before we got her now she has lost about 8 long feathers ( some nice man collected them and handed them to my husband ) we were thinking at the time, what are we supposed to do with these, glue them back on. I guess he thought he was doing right.

I just hope I have not killed my progress with her, she really was coming around with me.

She hasnt regurgitated for 2 days now!!! Another 2 days of no regurgitating and she will be able to finish her medication!! I hope she doesnt turn around and do it again.

Well when my tiel was bitten he seemed like he was going to die cos he was so scared so we wiped his leg and put some anticeptic cream on it (for birds) and put him back in his cage and covered him up. The next morning he was heaps better...still a bit scared but by the afternoon it was like nothing had happened.

Glad to be helping out.

I hope she/he is OK , You know A year ago if someone was to tell us that a parrot was a good pet and the love of our life, I would have told them there are crazy. But they are our "babies".
