Less Stressful Vet Visits?

Newton and I just returned from his annual physical examination. Have any of you learned any tricks of the trade so these visits are less stressful?

Newt is fine when we get there, but when he is toweled for the examination, he is NOT a happy camper. It stresses him out so much, he comes home and naps for 2 - 3 hours.

I'm working on toweling him at home and he's doing well. I'm trying to make it a happy experience. He will let me trim his nails and wings, although the vet did it today. I think its being restrained in the towel that gets him worked up. Any ideas would be appreciated.

When I took my GB's, I was so worried they'd freak out, so I brought their acrylic polly perch that I use in the shower, 'cus it's familiar to them and a bag of peanuts in the shell. They were so happy to see the bag of peanuts, they didn't mind being there. They made a mess in the exam room, oh well! Maybe if Newton has a super favorite treat, take some with you? Hopefully, you won't have to visit the vet too often! That's the only thing I could think of to help my guys out. I also brought along new toys. I probobly looked crazy, I pretty much had a diaper bag full of goodies for them, but it seemed to help a little. Good Luck!

That's a good idea. I took his favorite nuts, pistachios, and he wasn't interested, but one of his favorite toys is a good idea. I'll take some hand toys and other goodies the next time. Fortunately, he's a healthy boy and this was just his annual exam.

I wonder if I take "his" towel to the vet if that would help too?
