why wasn't I scared?

Too weird. Just too weird. I don't even begin to understand it. I took Sophie out to have her wings clipped. I have the first four flights clipped to keep things safe in the house. It had been awhile since I had gone to have it done. I knew she had most the flights in. There I was walking around bold as you please knowing she wasn't going to fly off.

We got to the breeders property where I take Sophie (as well as where I got her). This place is out in the middle of no where ok? Between Watsonville and Prunedale (A.K.A. Punetucky) As I headed for the entry Sophie took off of my shoulder like she does only this time she got air. And was flying. Quite well too I might add. I loved it. It scared the crap out of her!!! I cheered her, and praised her.

Sophie and I have a game we play outdoors. Those times she flies of my shoulder and lands ahead of me, she waits for me to come get her. Before now she has never gone up. She was lifting that foot for me 50 feet before I got to her. I could the "PAPA!!! HELP!!" in her eyes. She waisted no time going to her safe place (on my shoulder leaning against my head).

At no time was I scared of losing her. I love Sophie with all my heart yet all I could feel was excitement seeing her fly.

After she was trimmed and we were leaving, as soon as we got out of the door she crawled up under my chin!!! Bless her heart!!

I was exactly the same when my baby Raven flew for the first time! I wasn't scared she'd fly off, I was just so proud that she was flying! The next time she flew wasn't so fun though- she got stuck on the ROOF! lol

I'm happy for you and your baby! It just shows you know each other very well and that bond and trust is there. I can't wait to get Newt's outside aviary built so he can fly too.

Sophie and Scarlett must be kindred spirits. Scarlett will fly across our yard every once in a while, but only when she's spooked. She's never been able to gain air before.

The last time she flew, though, she got caught in the wind and gained air, went two yards over, and started screaming she was so scared. I had to crawl in a banana plant to get her. It scared both of us so much that we use the halter all the time, now.

I'm glad Sophie's first outside flying experience was such a good one!

Why was'nt I scared

You should have been. Maybe your Sophie loves you and would have all intentions of coming back to you, but did you EVER think of predators. She could be gone in a second if a hawk saw her. Or did you think of hydro lines or a gust of wind that could take her too far to find you. THINK MAN, she's too precious to lose!
