BB Book Club Suggestions: Post Your Pick's!

This Idea of a BirdBoard Book Club was suggested and thought it would be a good addition...

If you have some favorite bird related reads that talk about the care, generaal info on bird behavior, species, and etc please post all the info as posible author, title of the book so we can further look it up.

I ALWAYS RECOMMEND (A must-have IMO): "Parrots: Handfeeding & Nursery Management".....By Howard Voren & Rick Jordan

Another for the dedicated bird keeper/enthusiast is: "Avian Medicine: Principles & Application" by Branson Ritchie, Greg Harrison, Linda Harrison which also can be purchased at the same site listed below....Bit expensive but IMO worth it, about $100.00 (Hardcover)....Also may be able to get the paperback edition for about $35-$45....

The Beak Book is a must. Gives a firm understaning why birds bite and how to correct it. Wonderful book. Birds for Dummies is also very informative.

IMHO, the Bible for Owning a Parrot is

Companion Parrot Handbook
by Sally Blanchard

From Amazon.com:

Editorial Reviews

Pamela Clark
Throughout my career as a parrot owner, breeder, and avian behavior consultant, I have sought out the most current and accurate information available, which would allow me to become more effective in dealing with the birds I know. Once I learned of Sally Blanchard' theories and philosophies, I knew I had found what I was looking for. Ms. Blanchard consistently focuses on the trust building techniques for keeping parrots which serve both to prevent behavior problems in birds from occuring, but can provide solutions when they do. Long awaited by parrot lovers, this book combines her extensive knowledge with her unique and humorous artwork in a manner which serves both to entertain and inform. Whether you have a cockatiel or a large macaw, this book is an incomparable reference. I have found no other which is as complete, truthful, informative and easy to read.

Though it's more of a novel, and wasn't intended as an instructional book, The Parrot That Ownes Me gave me increadible insight into why my birds act the way they do and do the things they do.

My three faves:

Parrots off the Perch by Larry Lachman, Diane Grindol and Frank Kocher
Let's Celebrate Pet Birds by T J Lefeber
Birds for Dummies by Gina Spadafori and Brian L Speer

And anything by Diane Grindol on cockatiels...but I just don't want to leave out people who don't have tiels. So the three above are general bird topical.

I was just downtown yesterday and I forgot to pop into Borders, I want that book Nina suggested The Parrot that Owns Me.
