One Of My Love Birds Lost Its Toes!!!

I HAVE 2 LOVE BIRDS & ONE OF THEM SOME HOW GOT ITS FOOT CAUGHT IN THE STRING FOR THE MINI BLINDS. I KEEP THEIR CAGE IN A SPARE BEDROOM SO I CAN LET THEM OUT DAILY TO FLY AROUND & PLAY ON THEIR TREES. I KEEP THE STRINGS FOR THE MINI BLINDS TIED UP SO THEY CANT GET TANGLED IN THEM. WELL, 2 DAYS AGO I WENT IN TO PUT THEM UP FOR THE NIGHT & THEIR WAS BLOOD ALL OVER THE WINDOW. THEY GOT THE STRING UN TIED SOME HOW & THE STRING WAS WRAPPED AROUND ONE OF MY BABIES FEET MY BOYFRIEND GRABBED THE SCISSORS FOR ME & I CUT HIM LOOSE BUT HIS TOES ARE GONE. ALL HE HAS LEFT IS HIS LEG. THEIRS NO TOES & REALLY NO FOOT THE VET SAD HE WILL LIVE BUT I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO FIX HIS CAGE NOW. DO I KEEP THE FOOD & WATER ON THE FLOOR OR UP SO HE CAN FLY TO IT? HE CAN STILL CLIMB, IT JUST TAKES HIM A LITTLE LONGER. HE PERCHES OK TOO. IF ANYONE CAN HELP THAT WOULD BE GREAT. I WILL POST THIS IN THE LOVE BIRD SECTION AS WELL. THANKS, CRYSTAL

Hi Crystal, the same thing happened to Booger my lovie, his toes didnt come off but he has no movement or sensation, when i had the incident with my lovie i bought a little hamster cage (chich is low and small but still has a lot of room for them) to keep him in their untill he learned to get around on 1 foot, keep the food/water dish low to make it easier on him to eat i also had a heat pad under the hamster cage, when you notice him climbing and getting around better you can allow him to go back to his original cage, have plenty of toys to spoil him while he recovers, hope this helps.

Thanks. He has his friend (my other lovie) right by his side. They are inseprable. When we were trying to cut him loose from the mini blind string, my other lovie was flying around the room trying to attack us. He thought we were hurting his buddy. When I got him loose & back in his cage, the other flew right in & cuddled up with him to comfort him. I felt so bad. Crystal

Aww that's so sad. I really hope he feels better soon. Least he's got a wee friend to comfort him :)
