I Beleive I Posted This In The Wrong Place Earlier But Here Goes A Long Story One More Time Last Weekend I Adopted A 13 Yoa U2. Ok The Owner And I Talked Or E-mailed Each Other For The 2 Wks Until I Was Able To Go Pick Cody Up Liked What I Heard Seen Videos Of Him Ok Great I Have Got To Go Check This Bird Out. Ok When My Husband And I Get To The Owners House They Had Cody Out In The Kitchen Where He Was Playing We Talked Maybe Hour Are Longer While I Watched Cody. I Finally Decided Hes Going Home With Me. Ok We Get Home Heres My First Mistake I Just Had To Let Cody Meet Sid My Macaw Should Have Quaranteened Him First. Ok Later My Son Came Over To Meet Cody And Noticed Bare Patches Under His Wings I Told My Son He Has Plucked Hisself. Ok So I Called The Lady I Got Cody From She Said Oh Hes Always Been Like That I Said Well Now Hes Pulling On His Feathers She Tells Me Oh Hes Just Preening. Ok I Know What Preening Is She Did Tell Me Though That He Had Been Tested For The Feather And Beak Disease And It Was Neg. Ok This Was Last Sat I Could Not Get A Appointment With My Vet Until The Next Friday.ok Vet Visit Vet Said If Cody Doesnt Have The Beak And Feather Disease He Has Been Neglected Omg.the Lady I Adopted Cody From Is Suppose To Fax His Records To My Vet Tommorow She Said She Couldnt Get Them Friday While I Was At The Vet. But This Is My Story About Cody Just Hoping He Doesnt Have The Feather And Beak

Wow. I pray the best for you and Cody...and the rest of your house at that matter. However the story ends it is sad, whether he has it or was neglected. why was she getting rid of him in the first place?

Good luck! Keep us updated!

I hope he gets through this ok. I saw some cockatoos flying over head today. They really are beautiful birds- you're lucky to have one! Good luck with him.

Is there anything wrong with his beak? Beak and Feather disease usually shows both symptoms. For instance, the beak growing too quickly and causing notches on one side, or unusal flaking, or some other strange formation.

My bird plucks and is fine. It may be nothing. Her favorite places to pluck are her legs and her on her sides right next to her wings. There may be nothing wrong. And he may not have been neglected. Birds pluck for a number of reasons.

Cockatoos usually develop serious behavior issues once neglected. Since he sounds well-adjusted otherwise, he may just be a plucker. Or it may be as simple as giving him more interaction with you and changing the diet up a bit.

I went back and read that he's a 13 year old u2. . . .if he was with his original owners and they neglected him, he'd probably have a few more negative traits than just a naked spot under his wing. I bet, once he starts to trust you, and is happy in his new home with loving owners, he'll get better. And just keep in mind that he may never stop plucking. My little nudist will not stop for anything. Even when she's with us all day, she'll randomly pluck a feather from her leg or neck and chew on it. . . .it becomes a habit that is quite hard to break. Started off as her mourning the death of her best friend our CAG, and never finished, no matter what we do!!

But, if nudity is her only hangup, we're okay with that. She's a complete sweetheart otherwise.

I love U2s. Wish my allergies didn't hate them. . .

I am so jealous of anyone who has a cockatoo. They are so sweet and cuddly and smart and just plain awesome :) I'm so glad you decided to give him a home!

I have so much respect for people who take in birds with problems and work the way through them, i'm sure that's what you'll do with your new baby!

Good luck with everything i hope it all turns out to be nothing, but keep us posted!!
